the accuracy is not as important as the trend.
that said, the ones available for home use are pretty much the same - they use bioelectrical impedance. i've used Tanita's - different models - and they've shown relatively the same reading.
my health care insurance carrier uses a tanita, and it has rarely been different than what my home model shows.
there's even charts on the internet to determine whether your reading is within reasonable ranges.
also note that many factors affect the reading, especially hydration.
many body builders swear by calipers, another way of measuring, and much cheaper than a bioelectrical impedance scale.
