As for me, I have about 800 songs in a rotation. It all depends on my mood and what I'm doing. I like heavy metal for working out with weights, some rap for cardio and pop/rock for my stairmaster.

I'll go from one-hit wonders like "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand" by the Primative Radio Gods to Metallica ("Enter Sandman") to Enimem ("Lose Yourself") to Pat Benetar (pretty much anything) to Godsmack ("Whatever") to Bonnie Tyler ("Holding out for a Hero") to KT Tunstall ("Black Horse and The Cherry Tree") and so on and so on and so forth.

Just no country and western.

I, too, like “I’m So Excited” by The Pointer Sisters. Some of my all-time faves are:

Can’t Stop (This Feelin’ I Got) – Prince
Baby, I’m A Star – Prince
Let’s Go Crazy – Prince
When U Were Mine – Prince
Delirious – Prince
DMSR – Prince
Shockadelica – Prince
Peach – Prince
Baby Knows – Prince
Raspberry Beret – Prince
She’s Always In My Hair – Prince

Hung Up – Madonna
Lucky Star – Madonna
Borderline – Madonna
Into The Groove – Madonna
Push – Madonna
Jump – Madonna
More – Madonna
Vogue – Madonna
Burning Up – Madonna

You Dropped A Bomb On Me – Gap Band
Knock On Wood – Ami Stewart
Take A Chance On Me – ABBA
Make It Happen – Mariah Carey (sure it’s cheesy, but it works!)
God Part II – U2
Love and Peace – U2

And many, many others.

Also, classic rock songs by Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, John Lennon, Tom Petty, and ELO really get me going, too. I wish more instructors would use classic rock for their workouts. I LOVE “Paint It Black” in Cathe’s “Step Blast.”

I have a whole playlist of my favorite rock songs (I might post it later when I have access to my playlists). I was doing the SS Firm It Up workout once and the INXS song Pretty Vegas came on during the killer floor leg segment...PERFECT timing! I had to play the song again when I switched legs, it was so motivating!

My musical tastes on a cardio machine are very teeny bopper. Or Latin/Middle Eastern. I currently listen to:

Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back - great thumping beat to pick you up when you are tired
Fergie - Voodoo Doll and London Bridge from the album Dutchess
Paris Hilton singing a cover of Rod Stewart's - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
Jamelia - Do Me Right - from her brand new album Walk with me - it has sitar music and was produced by Afrika Bambatta
Scissor Sistors - I Dont Feel Like Dancing
Juanes - La Camisa Negra
Shakira - Hips Dont Lie
Cherish - Do It To It
Black Eyed Peas - Pump It
Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
Daddy Yankee - Gasolina
Nelly Furtado - No Hay Igual and Maneater
Despina Vandi - Gia
Tarkan - Start the Fire
Beyonce - Check On It
Rihanna - SOS

So many new songs to check out. I haven't even heard of half of them & wonder where I have been (I'm old though). I find you can pick up a lot of good songs from workout classes at the gym. I wonder where they get their modern stuff from. The song just makes all the difference for me. I can be running up a steep hill with no energy & scan through my running songs for the perfect high energy one to get me up that impossible hill like it was nothing. Then there are those song that when you hear them you just can't help but start dancing. I'd love to make a play list of just those songs......yeah in my spare time. Anyone together enough that they have a seperate play list or mix cd for each type of workout, like box, step, etc? Love to see those lists too.

I usually hit shuffle on my nano, but the songs that always get me running faster are:

Animals - Nickleback
Living la vida loca - Ricky Martin
Walkie Talkie Man - Steriogram
Fever - Aerosmith
Misery - Green Day
Holiday - Green Day
Hey-Ya - Outkast
Trouble - Pink
Perfect Day - Hoku
Hey Baby - No Doubt

Why is it that I need to match my feet to the beat?

Jenny

When I need some fast & hard rock, I play Sleater-Kinney. The angry songs make you work harder.

I need fast songs to exercise to. My normal listening music is more toned down.

Hell ya! I met Sleater-Kinney, some of them came to a party at my house in Olympia.

Have you gotten to see the Go-Team? They are really fun. I wonder what the lead singer does for her workout cause man she was jumping around and landing in the splits and just had amazing energy.
