Debra Bono Dance Explosion..

So I decided to check this out to see if I would like music and got drawn in. I did the first 16 minutes then ran out of time.

I don’t regret the purchase, the music is fine and I thought it went great with the routine and Debra’s cueing is great.

This is unlike any workout that I own. It’s challenging without any momentum, using controlled movements. Although you are going around and over the step, it’s controlled. Low impact with moderate intensity (using 4inch step). The little that I tried was fun. I love that she incorporates African dance movements throughout and the workout can be done on or off the step. I’m going to do the full workout in a couple of days so will come back and add comments.

Ok, did the full workout this morning minus the Lower Body Conditioning segment because I ran out of time.

Still stand by my first impressions. I’m going to categorize this as steady state/low impact.

The chapters are:
Introduction
W/u
Workout 1
Full Combo Segment 1
Pulse Check
Workout 2
Full Combo Segment 2
Cool Down/Stretch
Lower Body Conditioning
Credits

I’m not a previewer, I like to jump right in. I did great through Segment 1. The warm up is about 8 minutes and the first segment is about 22 minutes. The build up is slower and combos are done equally on the floor and step, at least it felt that way to me. The finished combos are done a lot, probably a typical 6 times through, but I’m a terrible counter so lost track.

The 2nd segment uses a lot of moves that are in the first segment but there’s lots of layering using the step, up/down, around, backwards, etc. Not a lot of breakdown before getting into it in the 2nd segment and in what I call the 3rd segment (even Debra says we are going to combo 3). So, a lot of times I was on the wrong foot and facing the wrong way but I kept going. Lol. I felt great when done. Worked but not beat.

I’m going to work on the 2nd segment after my main workout and revisit this once I have everything down. I used a 4 inch step, mostly because I always do, but everything is controlled enough that I would definitely feel comfortable enough with a 6 or 8 inch step. The backgrounder is awesome, she made it look effortless on the 8 inch step.

Lots of calories burned for sure. Mostly cardio according to my Fitbit.
