I tripped over a speed bump while running. I didn't fall but caught myself and that pulled my piriformis. It took me a year to finally totally healed. At first I thought I could fix it myself by lots of stretching...it helped but it did not heal it.

I had never been to a chiropractor but decided I was going to give that a try and I researched who I was going to first because I wanted to make sure they had a good reputation. That helped.

So I combined going to chiropractor once a month, medicupping once a month (procedure that gets blood directly into the problem area) and sports massage once to twice a month.

I was training for a marathon so I made sure I only ran once a week on the street. The rest of my running was on a treadmill or at the track (both these surfaces are made for running)....streets are made for cars and I've seen very few runners that do all their training on the street not hurt and that is exactly where my injury occurred.

I haven't had any pain this year at all but I make sure I do my stretching and I still go for a sports massage twice a month...hope you get it fixed I know it can be painful....leigh

Mine never completely heals. I always have the issue but sometimes it is worse than others. When I increase my speed when I run or do to much high impact it flares up. I do foam rolling and that is the only thing that helps me. The other posters are correct when it is inflamed start off slow and then work up to doing it daily. I roll both sides of the glutes and all the way down my IT band to right above the knee on both sides. HTH
