Need help choosing Pilates video

Hi all,

I'm new to Pilates. I've never tried it at all, and I'm not sure I'll like it. I'd like to ask a few questions of the knowledgeable.

First, why do YOU do Pilates? What do you like about this type of exercise?

Second, which video/instructor would you recommend for someone who's never tried Pilates? (I'm advanced in strength training and intermediate/advanced in aerobics.)

Thanks!

Hi,

I am almost brand new to Pilates, so there are a lot of people who can advise you better. But, I can tell you what I have tried (and enjoyed) so far.

It seems really important to get the form down. If you do the exercises the correct way, then you can see the results. I have used the Pilates for Dummies DVD (just the beginning routine so far) and Ana Caban's Beginning Mat Workout. They both explain form well. Ana Caban's also has a modifier who shows how to do the exercises for beginners who have trouble with the full form initially. I assume I'll outgrow both of them, but they are good places to start.

Hi

I have been doing pilates for almoost a year.
It is great for flexability and tight joints.
Plus it builds core strength. I enjoy it very much.
My favorites our ana cabans tapes available at http://www.gaiam.com
I rccomend starting with her basic beginner living arts tape and the book pilates body by brook silar.

good luck
