Did everyone fail the No Buying Challenge?

I'm mostly just curious about this, since I haven't seen any new NBC threads in the C&C forum for a while. Did P90x cause most of you to fail?

Being another VFer on a budget, I used to like to lurk on your discussions for ideas on how to keep my own fitness in check. But I admit that mostly, I just found it very amusing reading the rationalizations of vidiots trying to justify the purchase of the new workouts that they so desperately wanted.

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone who was serious about the NBC. Seriously, I think that anyone who really must limit their fitness spending should stay far away from VF. It seems that ultimately, we always end up enabling each other to spend even more money on fitness videos.

Actually, I've been very successful at not buying since roughly January. I have purchased a few things from e-bay using funds I earned selling. I haven't bought a new video from a non-ebay online source since January and I think I've only bought 2 or 3 from local sources. Plus two new from e-bay and that's only 5 brand new DVD's this year, four of which cost less than $10. I've acquired lots of used videos in that time through e-bay, yaya's and the exchanges through.

I'd like to think that the reason we're not having any activity there is because we're all doing so well, right?

Maybe I'll go revive the check-in thread and see what's up...

I haven't bought anything since I preordered the new CIAs. I do plan to cave on P90X, but I haven't yet. Even if I do, I'm spending money that I've already "earned" by working out and using my unused workouts. So, for me, it's been a great success.

I'm still an active member of the NBC, but honestly it would have been more accurately named the "Make your own rules to make you comfortable with your spending habits and really consider your purchases' check in. No buying challenge is a lot less cumbersome . I haven't seen more rationalization of purchases there than anywhere else on VF - in fact, I've seen a lot of people talked down from the edge of their credit cards .

As for P90X, I did just buy it (thanks Caryn!) and you know what? I earned it

How about the "Mindful Buying Challenge"?

I kind of like NBC, and I think that's how people think of us. Maybe we can think of ourselves as the "Not-mindless Buying Challenge" to keep our acronym the same.

And I agree with Charlene: I've seen more discouragement from buying here than encouragement. We aren't lemmings, running over the cliff into the sea. Well, ok, maybe we're kind of lemming-like, but at least we amble toward the cliff, discussing the possibilities, before throwing ourselves into the sea. But, in many cases, because of the ways that we've saved or earned money for new workouts, it's more like stepping into a wading pool than leaping into the sea .
