Yes, I liked it very much. It's historical fiction but the treatment of unwed pregnant girls back then is well documented. So sad the way they were treated.

I liked the movie better, I think. The endings are so different but the movie is more “hopeful” in general (although the premise is the same in both book and movie).

I like his movies too! The last one “Old” was very good.

That reminds me. Some of you talked about the new Will Trent TV show that was going to be on this season. There was some talk about how good it would be and/or how much it would follow the books. But I never heard what you thought about it after it came on. Any thoughts or opinions?

I never read any of the books, so I'm curious about what those who have think.

Pat, I'm enjoying Michelle O's book so far!

I'm reading The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand.

I read this a few years ago and it was fascinating, infuriating and eye-opening.

Finished Shady Hollow by Juneau Black this morning finally. Lots of people love this series but I didn't enjoy the book all that much. The premise of mysteries set in a village of animals is fun but I kept getting hung up on logistics, like how does a moose physically run a cafe that serves creatures like mice? Unfortunately the writing and world building didn't draw me in enough to just go with it, and the middle dragged a lot--I kept falling asleep when trying to read at night.

However, a friend loaned my Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt earlier in the week and I'm already two-thirds of the way through it--about an elderly woman who befriends an octopus in the aquarium she cleans at at night. Many themes of grief, loss, family and friendships.

I have read all of the Will Trent books and loved them. The series started out pretty good even though the characters were changed quite a bit in appearance and even in personality. That took a little getting used to. The series doesn't follow the books at all after the first 2 episodes. So it's an ok series on it's own. It's horrible if you're thinking it will follow the books. lol

I guess that means that I can read the books someday and not know what will happen. Thanks!

I've just started reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It involves a woman, a poor tobacco farmer and descendant of slaves, who had surgery for cervical cancer. Without her knowledge the doctors kept cells from her body for research because the tumor was unusual. The cells are "immortal," kept alive in culture, and are still being used to this day for research and development. This book was recommended to me years ago. I'm not sure I'll like it - looks like it involves a lot of science and ethics - but the two chapters I've read so far have been easy enough to digest.

The topic is disturbing to say the least.
I read it a few years ago for my book club. It was very interesting and I agree that it was rather disturbing.

I recently finished Louise Penney’s A World of Curiosities, The It Girl by Ruth Ware, The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews, and The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearce. I really liked all of them.
