Fun New Year's thread: How did you become a better social dancer?

i'm passable, but am always interested in improving my social dance moves, even if it's just in front of the mirror at home by myself.

at concerts, i get up and dance and don't care how i look, but i want to be better.

so...how did you become better at social dancing?

Ah, how many presuppositions in that question. I'm eager to read some answers because I don't dance in public when I'm sober.

bzar, I saw you bust out a move during the VF zoom chat during a song I think when Garrie was about to instruct? I can't place the song now but you looked good!

I have a friend who loves to go to concerts and bars with local bands and always get right up front and dances all night. She's ok nothing great but keeps time to the music and has fun. She's always insisting I dance with her when I go and I'm just not comfortable getting up front and dancing all night. Too shy. I will dance on occasion if I have a few wines and I guess I keep time ok but no great moves unfortunately. LOL.

Personally, I used to put on American Bandstand on Saturdays when noone was home and try to copy them :-)

Life before the internet wasn't easy.

My parents took me and my siblings to dances all the time when I was growing up. My parents, aunts and uncles, and older cousins taught me to dance. It just doesn't bother me to dance in public, to this day. Who cares?

One of my pandemic activities was to take virtual dance classes. At one point, I was probably taking 5-7 classes a week, all different styles. (I had a monthly membership). I miss that now that virtual class options have been greatly reduced.

I did not, in fact, become a better social dancer.
