I took off the "last ten pounds" last year (mostly between August and December). The starting goal was five pounds, and things were going quite well and I wound up losing about 12. I started working with at trainer, who basically revamped everything I did, from actually imposing dietary discipline to cutting my "normal" workout schedule almost in half. I went from doing two workouts a day most days (running in the morning, Cathe at night) to doing one workout a day; basically two total body workouts, two interval runs (20 minutes, tops) and two longer runs (one 40 minutes, one my choice) per week. I lost weight (fat) at a very consistent pace. DIET was a huge part of the equation!

Personally, this is why I think our bodies hang on to those last five or ten pounds so tenaciously. What if you succeeded in losing five or ten pounds and THEN got sick? What if, god forbid, it was something worse than the flu? A few extra pounds provides our bodies with an extra tool to fight illness.
