Meditation suggestions?

Does anyone have any recommendations for mediation that are similar to Headspace? There is no music, no visualization, but he leads from listening to around you, body scan and then counting breaths. This is a bit less about controlling thoughts than learning to accept them. For some reason, this helps me stop the cycle of obsessing about things in my head (and my head is a mess ). The breathing pattern actually helped me to finish a brutally long hike too.

While I wouldn't mind paying for the next session of mediations, the first ten are free, I think that the subscription is just too much. Even if you join for a year, you are paying 8 dollars a month for 5 or 6 hours of content.

I also tried the month long meditation intro on DoYouYoga, which I thought was fine. But, it was all over the place, and a lot if it really wasn't meditation. This is probably a really good place for people who want to mix yoga with meditation, but that isn't me. When I was done with it, I didn't feel like I had gained any skills, but it was pleasant.

ETA - I am also looking for some in person stuff too, but most seems to be tied heavily to religious practices.

Hi Lynn!

I started a list of FREE meditations here:

There are a variety of types and styles.

The Self-Compassion and LovingKindness ones by Christopher Germer are nice:

I hope you can find one you like.

Thanks so much Alta. I have tried a few of those resources when the thread was newer.

I do enjoy loving kindness meditations.

Any suggestions out of that list for simple and/or entry level?

I enjoy Belleruth too but I wish she had some shorter stuff. Although, her menopause stuff turns me off. Focusing on what we are no longer part of, and society's focus on youth seems a bit counter intuitive to me and that one is much too new agey for me. But I really enjoy her weight loss imagery on the Kaiser page. That one is much less about weight and much more about being healthy and whole. She had a couple phrases in there that had so much meaning to me- one about not reliving the hurts of the past.

I like many of Jon Kabat-Zinn's meditations. They are mostly body scan types.

ETA: I also like Bodhipaksa (who has a Scottish accent). His breathing meditations are nice:
