Kettlebell swings = same cardio effect as the treadmill
Per this month's Women's Health magazine, 10 minutes of kettlebell swings has the same impact on cardiovascular fitness as 10 min of running on a treadmill.
We probably already knew this. Interestingly, although the kettlebell swings provided the same boost in heart & breathing rates, it didn't have quite the same calorie burn: 125 calories vs 171 calories (for a 160 lb person). Still, that's impressive - if you do 40 min of kettlebell swings or similar kettlebell moves for strength training, you're burning 500 calories, too.

I would think so. The heavier your kettlebell the higher your heart rate is.
