Question Advice for DH's sore back

DH was in a car accident 15 yrs ago. Minor cuts and bruises but ever since his back sometimes aches(especially in damp weather-he can tell a day or two before it will rain or snow). Tiger balm and hot baths help. He is in good shape- 5'10" 165 lbs., runs, lifts weights and eats pretty sensibly.

I have seen back care tapes in the Collage catalog Could this help him? Or does anyone know of a different tape?

Thank you in advance. Happy Holidays!

I think one of the best tapes for your back is Priscilla Patrick's Lower Back Repair Kit (also available in VHS for $5 less):

Another favorite is Winsor's Back workout - 20 minutes and my back feels great.

Recently, I got all four of the ChiBall Method videos and they're great for the back, especially the Awaken the Spine, and Posture and Flexibility ones:

I have a dicey lower back and I, along with a lot of other VFers, have found this book immensely helpful:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...212254-2404754

Other books I haven't been working with as long, but recommend are:

Pain Free by Pete Egoscue (Egoscue needs to get over himself a little though):

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...212254-2404754

Trigger Point Therapy Workbook:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...212254-2404754

And those Petrone miracle balls are very therapeutic:

There's a good gentle back care yoga DVD by Rodney Yee as well.

I helped a mild problem with the YMCA's healthy back program years ago. I worked with an instructor; they have a book and video. The exercises are quite gentle.

Hi Mary!!

Long time no 'see'. I just wanted to stop in and say that I've missed you and also to second the suggestion (made by SharonNYC) for the Petrone Miracle Ball set.

Unfortunately this topic is near and dear to my heart...

right now

Several VF'rs gave me some additional back videos:

Windsor Pilates Back
Karen Voight Pilates Abs and Back

Since I'm in recovery mode, I did the Karen Voight yesterday (it's part of her Total Body Pilates dvd, there are two workouts but you can purchase the Abs and Back seperately). I trust Karen's detailed instruction and this moves a bit slower than the Windsor that I previewed on Collage.

I also recommend using a stability ball. Even standard crunches become a new animal on a stability ball since you are using a lot more muscles and can engage more of your core to stabilize yourself. You can check out Ball Workouts on the VF reviewes http://www.videofitness.com/reviews/ball.php and/or preview some on Collage. A few that I like are the Core Secrets Ab Attack (Gunnar is a man and he has Brooke Burke for eye candy so your DH might like it ) Quick Fix Stability Ball Workout with Keli Roberts, and Kathy Smith TimeSaver Lift Weights to Lose Weight 2 has a Bonus Ball Workout on it that is good. I also like Keli Roberts Hardcore Abs and Back Workout (it's not a ball but a floor workout with a bodybar).

If you can get him over the hump of working out to videos with women his choices are endless. But since so many VF'rs gave you very good book recommendations your/his choices are almost limitless.

Good luck!
