I have been very impressed by Mary, who has gone out of her way to provide me with excellent customer service for my (many) orders .

I went to her chat yesterday to ask her whether she was going to carry the new Karen Voight DVDs. She came onto the chat in about a minute. She said she didn't have the DVDs and wasn't sure if she would be able to carry them because Karen seems to be selling only from her own site (through Amazon).

I also asked Mary if she will be having the Thanksgiving sale and she said yes, but that it would not be the same as last year's. This year, it is going to be limited to only certain workouts. She said that some instructors do not want her to discount their DVDs and she doesn't want them to get mad at her. She also told me that she will be having a Halloween sale.

Char, Mary does read VF. She did tell me that she read my post here, thus the email. Again, if she would have taken a minute to let me to answer my first email to her, I would not have been left in the dark. But it's all good. It was resolved.

I am sympathetic with Mary on this one. We want her to carry lots of instructors, but that means she needs to stay on their good side. I think for the instructors, they want to maximize profits while their workouts are new, so they don't like to see them discounted during that time - which is unfortunate (I wanted 20% off the Ilarias ) but understandable.

I understand Mary's position and why she doesn't want to ruffle anyone's feathers. I think the instructors are not being wise in telling her not to sell their DVDs on her Thanksgiving sale because in this economy, people are not buying unless they can get a bargain. The instructors would be selling more of their DVDs, which in turn would generate more of a buzz. It seems kind of petty for the instructors to tell Mary she can't do the discount, since we're talking about maybe $4 and it's only for a few days.

I imagine that some instructors who put out their own workouts feel a loss of control with wider distribution of their workouts. For example, Patrick didn't have a good experience when his workouts went into wide distribution, from what I have read. Many of the instructors we are talking about were going to distribute just through Collage, but reconsidered when VFers asked them to also sell their workouts through Mary. I feel uncomfortable slamming them for a more cautious business plan when they have already responded to customer requests and are selling through a distributor they hadn't originally planned on to meet customer requests. Hopefully, over time, they will find that it does make long-term sense to allow their workouts to be discounted. However, since they just went with Mary, I imagine that may take some time.

Had my first experience ordering from Mary and it was a good one. I placed my order on Monday evening and was very pleasantly surprised to see a shipping confirmation in a matter of a couple of hours. The DVDs arrived Wednesday, far soon that I had expected. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
