Pros and Cons of stability ball workouts

I was wondering why people like or dislike working on a stability ball. It looks interesting and scary at the same time. I don't have good balance so don't know if I should try it. Thanks

Linda

I love using my stability ball

*I enjoy anything that works the abs that is not a crunch

* I like to balance on it to do DB presses, chest presses, etc because it is supposed to burn more calories than doing these on a bench

* Planks are much more fun on a stability ball (I don't know why)

* I don't mind falling on the floor

I think it is my favorite workout toy!!

personally i can't stand normal on the floor ab work. maybe it's me screwing up form (although i try really hard to keep it) it hurts my neck. and sometimes i just can't get through them.

doing the same stuff on the ball is a different world for me. i actually enjoy it. and maybe because of the ball i feel it more the next day (disclaimer here...i've used the ball with core secrets dvds so that could be why i felt it more the next day who knows.)

i'm not the best with balance either, but i got use to it with the ball. plus i actually found it fun. and my neck didn't bother me.

the only con i see is that it takes up room, and it's a pain to blow up and squish down for use and storage -- hence why i just keep it blown up. oh and another con, because of my weight i am still getting use to trusting that the ball won't go pop. (even though i am under the weight limit on the ball so it's kinda a head thing.)

I enjoy ball workouts and do them some. Over time, I found my balance on it has improved dramatically. I think it just happened as I got used to the ball and as I built strength.

I Love My Ball

I understand why it can seem intimidating. Just take it slow.
It's the only way I can work my abs without neck pain.

The ball just isn't for me. It's not really the balancing that's a problem, it's just that I find the ball really inconvenient to use.

Specifically, you can't just place it somewhere and get on it and have it stay there. For most things, you have to roll down so that the ball is under your back or neck, and I invariably end up too close to a wall and have to roll a couple of times to place myself right (then of course I have to rewind the tape because I missed a bunch because I was rolling around). Then, between exercises, the darn thing is always rolling away!

For me, it's not worth the aggravation.

I don't find it particularly useful for lower ab work.

Really Seabush? I find it very useful. Have you done any of Cathe's abwork that uses the ball? She does things like putting it between her knees and lifting her lower body or rotating her lower body from side to side. It really works the lower abs!
