Android Walking APP?

I am looking for a free android phone walking/training/GPS app for my DH. Since working from home for the last year (and not walking around the office all day) his health has suffered. He is now willing to take walks but needs some motivation to push longer and harder. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for an app that counts steps or just uses GPS to track walks? Or something that has like a training program?

I have used both MapMyRun (there is a family of MapMy... apps that are all similar, I believe) and JogTracker to track my run/walk using GPS. I like MapMyRun better but I had no issues that I can think of with JogTracker. I only use free versions of apps. These don't count your steps. MapMyRun estimates your steps if you manually log a walk. I don't remember if it does when you live track it.

There are free apps for 5k run training that could be adapted to just interval walking instead of running. I have used for many years the ZenLabs 10k trainer app after starting with their Cto5k app. Instead of running the run intervals you could use those to walk faster.

Thanks Vantreesta. I will probably keep it simple and recommend a gps distance + time spent app. My DH is not a formal exerciser and has a short attention span. His motivation right now is to improve his walking cardio so he can go on a special golf weekend this summer with some of his golfing buddies.

Carly, I would probably go with MapMyWalk then. At least the nice thing with apps is you can always uninstall if you don't like it! Good luck!

Thanks, I put the Map My Walk on my husband's Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. It is very easy to use. The app is not available for my Galaxy S5 and the Runkeeper is currently experiencing glitches with Samsung phones so I will try some others. But my goal was to get an app on my husband's phone. So all is good.

I use Map my walk and have for about 10 years. They do frequent upgrades and always ask for feedback which I appreciate.
