Hi all--I had a few more thoughts about this issue.
First, I am working on my own "lazy glute"--I have been using the asymmetrical hip stretch that Sophie posted before most of my workouts, and I have also been trying to work the right side first. Of course, time will tell if it's helping! But I still wonder about those glute activation tests. DH happened to be wandering by my exercise room, so I made him try it. (Note: he is a complete non-exerciser, although he must have a naturally good metabolism, as he is normal weight.) Although he struggled a bit, he was able to lift his leg on both sides. Could this exercise simply be easier for men than for women? I also found figuring out the correct positioning from the photo to be difficult.
