We have a bunch of people coming up here from the Twin Cities to hide out at their cabins. They’ll probably end up bringing the virus with them. I don’t know why they just don’t stay in their homes.

My mom is 72 years old and works full-time with the public. The virus is slowly creeping closer to our area. I just called her and explained that she may need to stop working for a few weeks. She wasn’t too happy with me. Hoping things slow down soon, but I have a feeling this is just the beginning.

This Boomer thinks that folks of all ages who selfishly ignore the current self-isolation policies should be granted special Darwin Awards.

https://darwinawards.com/rules/

The Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives: by eliminating themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chance of long-term survival. In other words, they are cautionary tales about people who kill themselves in really stupid ways, and in doing so, significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race.

I just read about a local church that had a drive-in service. Folks stayed in their cars like at a drive-in movie. Where there's a will, there's a (safer) way.

"STAY HOME no matter what your local officials tell you! this is not a local matter, no matter where you are. it’s a global pandemic.

this chilling video of a bergamo newspaper’s obituary column in lombardy, the hardest hit region in italy, shows the reality. on february 9 it was 1.5 pages long. on march 13, 10 pages.

and the mother of the mayor in a neighboring municipality just died this morning as well.

i’m not trying to scare you or throw you into a panic. the italians are not panicking. i am just urging you to be prepared and to remain proactive.

and to STAY HOME."
All my extended family lives in northern Italy. They are all fine so far but I'm following a non-sensationalized daily blog of life under lockdown and it is sobering, even chilling in some instances. This was her comment on the news from Bergamo:

"Bergamo is almost broken in half. Eulogies on today's newspaper covered 11 pages, with five times the usual amount of departures. And this comes with the saddest fact that there's not enough space to store the bodies of the departed (not to mention giving them a proper burial). For this reason, some churches were transformed into chambers to host the bodies."

Serious times, and many European nations are about to follow suit with their own lockdowns. This isn't an option, it's what we have to do.

Us too, Jennifer! I venture out to the grocery store to food shop very, very early in the morning so to avoid people. I do wear gloves. It's pretty rural up here (Saratoga Springs, NY - Upstate) so thankfully we're no longer in dense Long Island or NYC. I would be very frightened.

[QUOTE=angie_nrs;2863844]I agree. I think the histeria is a response to the media hype. In addition, when they announced the 2 week school closures here, everyone rushed the stores to get prepared for that. That, I can understand.....but TP??? I guess I thought most people had a healthy supply of TP at home. Guess not.

I have a stomach virus or strep(waiting for culture)without going into detail, I definitely need tp!

I don't get this at all. It would be cheaper to go out and buy 100 proof vodka or Everclear and use that as a sanitizer after putting it in a spray bottle. I make tinctures, so I have lots of 100 proof alcohol. Although, I also have lots of soap and sanitizer at home too, so no need to break into the good stuff.

thank for the idea, can't find rubbing alcohol anywhere!

I just spoke to my SIL and she said that she saw where a store had special early shopping hours for folks aged 65 and older ONLY. That's an interesting idea. I guess they would have to card people.

I'm too young by a few months yet.

Like I said, I wasn't sure about the validity. Glad to hear a personal story here.
