This is beautifully said.

Mostly, the Martha Stewart types on Facebook, etc. might include (semi-)insulting captions underneath the photo of the creative icing, but then that's their gameplan ...

Awww, too bad, inspiring with positive undertones sure wouldn't sell much of anything ... you create (artificial) psychic pain and dissatisfaction, then you move in for the kill if your agenda is to sell (or "educate" - just another word for selling) something to somebody ... (end snark)

I'll post pictures (along with other party snaps), and while most people are complimentary, I'll get some snarky remarks about how I'm one those mothers. I must have too much time on my hands, that sort of thing. I can feel the eye-rolling. I'm always amazed by this. Why is my child's birthday cake an issue for these people? Why do they act as if my cake is some kind of indictment of their own parenting? FWIW, we have parties at home, my children are not over indulged, etc.

I just don't understand why people take my kids' cakes so personally... I do think some of that goes on in reactions to fitspo.
Who doesn't like looking at pictures of cake?!!!!
FitSpo cakes? Now that would be a mixed message. A delicious mixed message!

I dunno. I guess being older & not much wiser the FitSpo doesn't bother me. Or I should say I don't let it anymore.
"F*ck 'em" "that's nice for her, not for me" are my mantras lately. It's not been easy.

I admit, I kinda like looking at it. Though I like looking at fashion photography, etc. plus size, FitSpo, Kardashian, I like it--I guess I like highly stylized photography?
However, I totally get how it would bother others especially the younger women/girls.

Yes, I also consider myself pretty indifferent to fitspo. I don't seek it out, and I don't run across it much. I don't care for it, and find it pretty laughable, but it's not normally something I would go on a rant about. Hearing that people who dislike or make fun of some Fitspo are jealous and hate themselves really did set me off though.

this is an excellent example of my idea of good Fitspo. And yes, this woman should be proud of all her hard work:

Yeah, does not really exist: those cakes. Picture of low-carb cakes have mostly left me cold. They usually are not too much to look at.

I'm pretty old, and that Fitspo is one hella trigger.

I'm just over a year into recovery from Facebook addiction ...

The sarcasm was mostly over the way these women were marketed and objectified (no faces, boob shots etc). Those pictures invite controversy because they send a written message that clearly says if you aren't like the photo it's because you are lazy, defective in your choices etc. It couldn't possibly be because you chose other things to do with your time, don't value the end gain or don't have the resources. And maybe some people just completely reject the whole "look at me, look at me, look at me", selfie driven, superficial environment that seems to plague our generation. Maybe they think that compassion and humanity should be valued above physical representation. Maybe they think that more time should be sent on improving world hunger, community service, intellectual pursuits etc. But it's all cupcakes if you are not choosing 6 pack abs.

In some arenas these women might be considered pretty darn silly in their headless, scantily clad, brooding poses complete with cheap cliches. So to those folks who think it must be jealousy to object, consider that it might just be a completely different perspective.
Taiga! I love you.

I think for me, that's the crux of it: motivation vs. shaming. The fitspo that I hate is the stuff that is shaming, talking about how "you'd rather have a cupcake than abs, your choice" or "what's your excuse" as if you must HAVE AN EXCUSE for not being a fitspo model.

If it's inspirational, I'm fine with it. So I guess for me it is less about the photos themselves and more about the captions. Although really, please, show me fitspo models WHO ARE HAPPY, not glaring or brooding or headless. Thanks. For me exercise is all about the joy of living!
