Me, me!! (raises hand wildly) I just love it when I wake up at 4:00 am and cannot go back to sleep, despite being exhausted. That's really fun. Or having really broken sleep, that's fun too!

I used to be a power sleeper with vivid dreams, and I enjoy working with that part of my brain. Can't dream if you aren't sleeping!

Agree that current events are not helping! Hugs to all you fellow insomniacs!

I really like Hypnotherapy for Deep Sleep by Tom Gale:

If you’re experiencing stress, I also highly recommend City of Hope 15 Minute Guided Imagery Meditation Exercise:

There are also some very good deep breathing practices on YouTube. Hope this helps!

*These all work best with headphones.

I have always had terrible insomnia! I was prescribed Ambien when I was first diagnosed with Graves disease and had a terrible reaction to it. I much prefer taking melatonin but it hasn't been working for me lately, so I take unisom. Lately, I've been waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble fall back asleep. It's so frustrating!

What I do is put on an audiobook or podcast with a timer on and hope I fall asleep before the timer goes off.

I'm kinda strange because I'm a big fan of true crime, but sometimes it gets to be too much.

These are my favorite podcasts:
Crime Junkie: https://crimejunkiepodcast.com
Mobituaries: https://www.mobituaries.com/the-podcast/
Happier: https://gretchenrubin.com/podcasts/
Family Secrets: https://danishapiro.com/family-secrets/

When I wake up in the middle of the night, I try to find the place I left off and hope I fall back asleep!

You know you have a hard time sleeping when you have the whole middle of the night schedule memorized for Nick at Nite and TV Land! I know others love the Hallmark Channel holiday movies, but I am a little peeved that they took off The Golden Girls during the night to show them. They are comfort watching and help me fall back to sleep.

I had a miserable night. I am going to try to push myself to get a little exercise to help improve my mood.

Too bad we don't still have VF live chat feature from the Friday night chats. We could log on when we can't sleep. Or is that still an option? It has been so long that I don't know.

Yay! I'm so glad it helped! Doesn't always work but it takes the edge off and mellows me out.

I'm sorry you had a bad night...

And a chat sounds fun but I don't even know how that function was initiated , nor do I see a way to do that anywhere?
Maybe someone will pipe up with knowledge?

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but I find Natural Calm to be helpful. It's a magnesium powder you add to hot water. I use unflavored, but there are flavored varieties as well. I usually have a cup in the evening. Many people are low in magnesium. It has really helped me. I find when I drink it consistently, I am able to wind down more easily.

I find melatonin works sporadically for me too, as in, if I take it several nights in a row, it stops working. Can I ask what you listen to your podcasts on or how that works? I'm sure I'd keep my poor husband awake doing that but curious anyway!

This is what I do. I like 'The Tech Guy' podcast with Leo Laporte for falling asleep. I tell Alexa 'play the tech guy podcast.' Then I tell her 'after one hour, stop playing.' Sometimes it'll end but I can repeat it verbally so that's nice.

My DH sleeps on the couch. It helps his back. So I have the bedroom to myself.

I also use Melatonin. We all make less of it as we get older.
