Thumbs up pleasant surprise - Moving Through Menopause ~ Kathy Smith

i've had the DVD Body Boomers, which includes 3 of her past workouts:
  • Moving Through Menopause (MTM)
  • Shaper Ball Workout SBW [Michael Carson is a co-trainer in this video]
  • Wellness Mind & Body Relaxation System (WMABRS)
i've had BB for a very long time - got it in a trade several years ago and had never done any of the segments on it, even when they were released as single workouts.

MTM has a very vigorous, 20 min cardio routine. it's more intense than a Leslie. she's joined by Nancy and Tzadora (sp?). the cardio segment is what i really liked and the other 2 segments (below) were quite good - can be intensified, but as is, it's just enough.

the MTM yoga (20 min) is not a recycled segment - it's just kathy alone in a shoji-screened room. she's wearing a really soothing-colored mauve/pink form-fitting spandex suit.

the strength training uses light handweights but has lots of big-muscle movement, combo moves too.

i think she should have named this workout something other than MTM because i had this image that it was very low intensity, almost forgettable. i got it in a multiple trade.

WMABRS is a 30 min yoga segment, frankensteined from her "New Yoga" series. it's not bad.

SBW was her first foray into using the stability ball, and one of the earlier ones that came out. when i got my stability ball way back in the mid-late 90s, i got the Gin Miller one (good back then) and i wanted kathy's SBW but never had a chance to get it.

I love Moving through Menopause - it's one of my favorites. I don't pay too much attention to titles of workouts because so many of them are just silly for various reasons, but I would not have associated this title with a "very low intensity" workout.

the title MTM is such a misnomer!

what got me to try this workout, really, was the yoga section.

i was in Goodwill* last week, and someone unloaded all of her New Yoga series and a couple of her other older workouts (which i had already - i can't recall the titles). i knew i had her yoga sculpt compilation DVD, but wasn't sure if it included the "New Yoga Basics" workout on it. i also couldn't remember which compilation kathy discs i owned!!!! in fact, i didn't know i had Boomers.

i read the reviews here and on amazon and wanted to see if the yoga segments from either MTM or WMABRS came from the New Yoga Basics workout, since i had discovered that Yoga Sculpt included New Yoga and New Yoga Challenge (the intermediate and advanced workouts).

i did WMABRS first, discovering that it was extracted from her New Yoga series (it's not entirely NYB or NY - i think a mix of the 2 or just parts of NYB).

the next day, i did MTM, and that's when i was pleasantly surprised.

*i went back to goodwill to pick up the New Yoga Basics (NYB) workout on DVD since i had the other 2 in the series on her Yoga Sculpt compilation disc.

I don't see it as a misnomer at all. Also, not sure if the "Moving through Menopause" workout is the same on the compilation DVD as the individual workout, but the individual "Moving through Menopause" workout had a lot of menopause info on it, too.
