During perimenopause, for 4-5 years, I had intense insomnia which now I see as mostly hormonal with some other life stresses thrown in. Now I am 56 and my hormones have leveled out and I sleep pretty good. I do have some anxiety during the work week that causes some restlessness, but I've gotten good with sleep hygiene & go to another room if I'm not able to return to sleep, which is like hitting the reset button, and usually in 15-30 min I can return and sleep.

exactly! i've noticed this about myself - you want to avoid pushing to that point. even simple passive surfing on the web will wind you UP and not down.

those amber glasses also help too if you're looking at any type of screen at night (TV, Computer, cell phone) - see this VF thread:
