The Fitness Craze That Changed the Way Women Exercise

Interesting article on the start of Jazzercise and the influence it has had on women.

Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in reading her book.

I have friends who swear by Jazzercise and go more than once a week.

I've never taken a live class, but enjoyed one of the dvds.

An ad for the live classes came through my Facebook feed. I forget the rate, but it was really expensive!

I don't think this is my style but I do give a lot of credit to her for offering an option to women, and an early one. I remember when Jazzercise started, and I actually went to Elaine Powers Figure Salon for awhile when I was in high school! Dancing is great exercise and definitely a route to fitness. Judi's experiences, particularly in those years when she was treated so dismissively, would be interesting to read about.

Thanks for sharing the article, Susan!

Right now their website is showing an introductory offer of 10 days for $39. See: https://www.jazzercise.com/Offers. Not sure what it would be after that.

I will always be grateful to Judi and Jazzercise. It was my second go at regularly working out--Charlene Prickett's It Figures was my first-- and changed my life for the better. I still like Judi's structure of an hour-long workout; warm-up, cardio, muscle-building, flexibility then relaxation. Many of Judi's original principles for the workouts have withstood the test of time.

I didn't realize that Jazzercise began 50 years ago this month.

I used to do Jazzercise at the gym in a nearby park. (Way back in the 80's). The instructor always used the best music. I loved it!

I recently found a vintage workout that reminds me so much of those classes. "The Golden Door Aerobics Workout:"

It's retro, but fun.

I think it was $100 a month for classes. I have always exercised at home, so I am clueless about class prices.
