From the library:

I read The Path to Sunshine Cove, the newst from RayAnne Thayne. It was good fluff.

I am now reading The Light Over London by Julia Kelly, a WWII novel that goes back and forth between current time and the 1940s. It's pretty good so far.

I'm reading Mary Alice Monroe's newest, The Summer of Lost & Found. It is the latest in a long series about the characters as they go through the pandemic. It is well done and I like it, but it's hard to go back mentally to that time.

On the Kindle:

I'm reading The Last Correspondent by Soraya Lane, another WWII novel about a woman correspondent on the front lines.

I'm reading This Secret Thing by MaryBeth Mayhew Whalen. I have continued reading it, barely. It's a psychological thriller which is not my favorite genre because it's more about what characters don't say, not what happens. But it has kept my attention enough to continue with it. It's a pretty good story.

I'm listening to David Copperfield by Charles Dickens on audio cd.

I really enjoyed the first bit (his childhood) but now that he's a young adult there are entirely too many characters, LOL!! If I were reading it I think I wouldn't have the same trouble, but I keep losing the thread and missing transitions from one conversation to another.

Never read anything by Dickens!

I felt like I missed a lot of the classics in school, so I went back and read a bunch when I was in my 20s. There are still some I missed though. I loved ANNA KARENINA and was considering going for WAR AND PEACE - would anyone recommend? (For reference, I hated CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.) I also really enjoyed THE AGE OF INNOCENCE. I'd have to think about what else I read during that time; it was awhile ago now.

All Charles Dickens novels have 400 main characters, but they are all so good.

I love Charles Dickens, but yes there are so many characters! Last year I read Bleak House at the beginning of lockdown and it's probably my favorite by him. A YouTuber, Katie of "Books and Things", had posted readalong videos from a few years back and that helped me keep track of what was happening.

I read The Friend by Sigrid Nunez. I liked it but the ending was kind of weird. It is a novel about a writer whose teacher/mentor dies and reluctantly (at first) takes care of his dog. It won the National Book Award.

I started Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson but put it on hold because I needed to read The Friend for book group. The first chapter was pretty slow but it is getting more interesting. It is a history of the Civil War. I am still reading about the events leading up to it. I am becoming somewhat obsessed with the Civil War.

I recently finished Floating in My Mother's Palm by Ursula Hegi. This was written before Stones From the River, but is set in the time period after Stones from the River.

Also recently read Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard. If you are interested in learning about fungus and mushrooms that live in cooperation with trees and other plants, this is a great book.
