Question Tell me about Hokas shoes...

(I made sure to put this post in the proper section so that nobody gets riled up!)

So, Saucony has discontinued my favorite Omni Grid walking shoes. I've read a few posts about Hokas shoes. Rather pricey, but worth it if they are good.

I have a heck of a time finding fitness shoes that feel comfortable. I'm still using the same workout shoes I've had for more than 10 years.

Any Hokas recs for walking shoes?

Following. They've been recommended to me by my doctor but they really "make a statement" and I wear a large size, so the visual aspect of such big shoes has me hesitating.

I bought a pair in 2016 in anticipation of doing the Avon 39 (walk a marathon and next day walk a half marathon). I don't know what model I had, but they probably have replaced it by now anyway. I loved those shoes and I survived all that walking without blisters which is more than I can say for my friend who not only got bad blisters but also lost a toenail. And I had very little break in time with them. My husband has chronic foot pain and all he will wear now is Hoka Clifton's. Very cushy for his sore feet.

Huge fan of Hoka Bondi 7

I'm a huge fan of Hoka Bondi 7s, they make my achy PF feet sing.

You can see my comments in this thread.

Thanks for the replies! I prefer to order online because it takes me more than a few moments in a store to see if a shoe is comfy.

I very rarely wear cute shoes or sandals. It's always workout shoes. I have lived in locations where you might have to take off running at any minute.

Hoka One One's are AMAZING shoes! Yes, at first I kept looking down and saying to myself these are clown shoes. But....
  • Extremely comfortable, like walking on a cloud.
  • If you have wide feet (I have non-achy bunions) and the toe boxes on Hokas are plenty wide yet the heel fits well.
  • They make a variety of shoes for different foot issues - pronation, supination, heel problems, etc.

They are pricey so I would go have them fitted at a reputable running store. I bought my first pair at a local running store and my second pair at Fleet Feet.

If you have problematic feet, these are the shoes for you!

I started running in Hokas several years ago bc I wanted more cushion. Initially I really liked them but I ended up switching to Altras bc the toe box on my Hokas was too small. So it sounds like that isn't the case anymore? I love my Altras for running.

I always buy Sauconys for walking.

Do they run true to size? I am asking for my hubby. He is on his feet all day at work. He wears shoes out pretty fast.

I guess I should look for a local shop that sells them.

Vintage, funny enough, I went to San Francisco with a friend yesterday and she was wearing a fairly new pair. She's had trouble with her feet for years and she said these have been great on her feet. She told another friend about them and that friend said they were life changing for her -- got rid of hip pain, back pain, and also helped her posture. That seems a little hard to believe, but when my friend was talking about this yesterday I was thinking about you, this thread, and your April posture focus. FWIW.
