There is a free PDF e-book by Mike Robertson with lots of self-myofascial release exercises. The PDF is 6.1 MB.

Thanks for posting this, Colleen. I've been reading it with interest. I hate rolling my IT band, so this give me a good excuse not to do it.

Thanks Alta for the e-book. Mike Robertson is the real deal. Just last night I was looking for information and visuals on wrist extensor and flexor muscles. This was really helpful.

I recently started using a foam roller. I am sedentary at work, have a desk job. Sometimes my glutes/quads/hams/IT band feel "constricted" for lack of a better word.

If they feel that way, or feel tight or ache-y, I foam roll them before bed. I actually felt a VERY deep knot release in my hamstrings the other night. It felt so good.

The first couple times it hurt to do my IT band, but I think I was doing it wrong.

Now it feels good, relaxing, and loosening. I will continue to foam roll it until I have issues. I think this is one of those things where ever body is a little different and you just have to listen to yours.

I ordered the mini Grid roller on Groupon today. It's only a few dollars cheaper than Amazon and I'm sure I will regret it when the shipping takes forever, but still...it's pink.

Before I ordered it, I wondered about the research behind foam rollers, not just all the awesome testimonials I hear. I found this:

Hey Alta...I see what you mean that there could be a legitimate reason. I guess I just appreciated that the article ultimately tried to point out that the IT band is coupled to other muscles and a problem with the IT band could mean something underlying related to that.
