A PT recently showed me how to roll the IT band and highly recommended it. Maybe this is one of those things that people disagree about?!

So what did they recommend to roll instead? I have one of their kits but never really read the literature or watched the dvd that came with it. I LOVE the TP balls.

Calves, back, neck, chest, feet, hamstrings, quads, inner thigh, etc.

I wish I could remember WHY they said not to roll the IT band...

I like lying my head on the foam roller when doing floorwork but am unable to get into the illustrated positions to roll on it. I think it would be more helpful if it weren't so hard and unstable or smaller in diameter.

That's odd, I have the TPT "Hip & Lower Back Kit" that I bought at a much lower price at an IDEA convention.

The DVD (which is very good, BTW) has the instructor specifically rolling on the ITB with the small "TP Quadballer" roller.

I've done a search and I can't find anything that advised NOT using a foam roller for your ITB.

This article states NOT to roll it everyday.

I don't foam roll but it was interesting read. I think if it works for you, then that is great. I am a big believer in massage and athletic style stretching. It seems that is what he is saying too; he doesn't really believe it's helpful but he recognizes that other people feel they benefit from it.

I have the same toys that I bought at a Mania convention last year (also for a lower price). I don't know which dvd I got, if any. I know I got a book. We did roll the outer thigh a bit, but the very cute instructor (totally irrelevant, but you see what I remember from the course) stressed to keep your weight off of the IT band. Sort of in an angled position so that you weren't directly rolling it...
