Good idea! Sometimes we forget that the whole world is watching.

Can Americans even visit Canada these days, let alone move there?

This does sound great but it's the cold and snow that I don't like.

No offense taken! The posts had me wondering about your cost of living. I haven't been to Canada since I was a kid. Beautiful country where I visited.

I've enjoyed this thread, thanks everyone for sharing.

I live in rural NW CT, lovely forests, close to Boston and NYC. Safe but expensive cost of living. Very humid summers and potentially lots of snow in winter. I make the most of both but really love the spring and fall. I've lived in Massachusetts both inland and coastal, a short time in CO some time ago too. I do love New England, but I think if not for my crazy family, I would think more seriously about moving someplace less expensive.

Hawaii is beautiful! But, the humidity is a deal breaker. We're used to the humidity being at single digits much of the year. I run humidifiers in the house.

I noticed not one city in California. None more West than Texas.

It is tough to find a community with a decent balance of safety and amenities.
I live in Mission Viejo, CA, in Orange County, about an hour south of L.A. Mission Viejo often does appear on lists of top-10 safest places to live in America - for several years we were number 1 and 2, alternately, on somebody’s list but not sure which publication that was. I regularly walk through the neighborhood for about an hour at around 6 or 7 at night and always feel safe. Crime is very low and we love it here. There is another town, Irvine, about 10 miles north which is likewise quite peaceful. There are also some charming small beach towns - Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Del Mar, which seem to be peaceful and safe.

That sounds like a great area.

DH wants to get out of California though.

I feel very safe where we are. But you wouldn't want to move here because of the humidity in the summer. And it's on the east coast rather than in the west. And the population is booming.

Northern Arizona has some smaller towns that have temperate and dry weather. Some snow in winter, but not much. Popular ones are Prescott and Payson. Probably Sedona and Showlow too. There are even smaller towns such as Pine and Strawberry. I don't know about crime. At one time I'd say they were safe, but with the populations growing, it might have changed. I'm pretty sure it's safer than the Phoenix area. Both Prescott and Payson are big retirement towns, and there are a lot of Californians retiring there. I have relatives in Prescott and they love it.

Sherry, what about Santa Claus? LOL. Every time we’d drive to Phoenix and go through Santa Claus, I’d say that’s where I want to live some day.
