I did Yoga with Kassandra 15 Minute Monday Morning Gentle Yoga. My back is pretty sore, and this helped quite a bit.

Donna, I'm feeling better. The shingles has cleared up and I don't have pain, just a bit of itching. I am low energy, it will take a couple of weeks to get my energy back, I would imagine. Mouth pain is still there, but I am starting to ignore it. I am living my life and managing it. Doing things distracts me and I don't notice the pain as much. It has lessened some, so that's a positive. I'm hoping eventually I will grind and clench less, and the pain will subside more. I have an appointment with a nephrologist on August 22 for my kidneys. So far, my function is good, so hoping that lasts for many years.

Gilad Quick Fit!

I did the Upper Body plus Abs portions of Gilad's workout today. It was a good 75 minute workout altogether (Back & Chest, Shoulders & Arms + Abs.) Nice retro workout from 2001 that will fry the muscles with light/medium weights and lots of reps.

Sherry, your gentle yoga sounds appealing right about now!

Have a good start to your week everyone!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday turned out to be a good day - throughout the day I interspersed some of Lucy Wyndham Read's workouts - they are good to do as a break from sitting - they are short, require little space and no equipment and can be done in regular clothing - no need to change into a workout outfit! After work I did:

Jessica Valent - Lower Body Blast Pilates workout - this was a good one, included some challenges (like the getting up off the floor w/out using hands!) and some standing leg lifts which I modified by using a chair.

Today, so far has been:

Charlene Prickett - Get the Fat Off - Cardio Cross Trainer - Low Impact. I really miss Charlene in the fitness world - it is straightforward, not insane, but still challenging enough. Her low impact is unique - it is a nice alternative to walking and dance workouts - and I think ends up being a little more intense than both. This one was also filmed outdoors which is a nice bonus.

I should do a retro-Charlene month -maybe in September.... (feeling inspired by Pam!)

I also added on - Yoga w/ Kassandra - 10 Min Root Chakra Yoga - which is a nice one to do after cardio. (feeling inspired by Sherry!)

wishiwasinhawaii- how are things?

Sherry - I do think it takes awhile to bounce back from Shingles. I am glad you are doing ok w/ the mouth pain.

Pam - nice workout! Oh my, isn't it shocking to think of 2001 as "retro" but i guess it is. I am thinking the Charlene P. workout I did today was late 90's, maybe early 2000's. Not sure. I have it on VHS, so it is probably 90's.

Hope everyone has a nice Tuesday - it has to be better than Monday!

I’ll have to hold off on the exercise. Even 15 minutes of yoga is too much. I also went out of town this weekend with my dh and dd to visit my family up north. I enjoyed it, but sure I overdid it. So I won’t be working out for awhile. It takes three to four weeks to recover from shingles and it’s just been a week and a half.

Donna, you are right! It takes awhile to bounce back. I’m mostly struggling with low energy and nausea. It’s like recovering from the flu.

Hi Ladies,

I was so sore after Gilad's workout yesterday! And, today I was out on the water kayaking and was still feeling it in my arms, back, shoulders, etc. I'm planning on stretching out the upper body tonight but just need to see what's calling my name.

I'm not sure when the Quick Fit workouts were released, as I originally had them on VHS and later upgraded to DVD. They look just like any other of Gilad's Bodies in Motion TV program.

Sherry, take it easy and don't feel any pressure to work out when you're not up to it. It's great that you're seeing family. I never feel rested after the weekends, either. I was so tired when I was kayaking today and even the drive to and from was exhausting mentally.

Donna, we'll see how long this retro rotation will last, but I felt like giving my unused DVDs some love. I could add Karen Voight to the mix and all my FIRM workouts, too! :-)

Hi Everyone,

Last night i added on some - Lucy Wyndham Read - Day # 2 from her August Walk & Tone which was an 8 min standing abs and then I did an after work stretch from Yoga w/ Kassandra.

Today, so far:

LWR - Day # 3 from her August Walk & Tone - this was interesting, it was filmed w/ her walking around Venice and then she would stop and do some body weight toning. It wasn't the hardest workout out there, but it served a purpose- to warm me up for Jessica's workout.

Jessica Valent - Pilates Arms and Abs - just what it sounds like. Body weight upper body - so planks and variations thereof and some Pilates ab work.

I may do another LWR or two later for just extra activity and then maybe a stretch or yoga...

My bathroom should be 98% complete today - the only snafu is that the shower door is delayed by 2 weeks, but my contractor will finish everything else today and then come back once the shower door is in stock.

Sherry - yes, definitely take time to recover. I feel that it took me about a month to feel "normal" again and I had a mild case. I took an entire week off from working out and then I think I just did some light stuff after that. It was a really rough time b/c i got it in June which is/was my busiest work month and then as soon as i got over the Shingles my Mom's health just feel apart. Truly, 2019 was my worst year - worse than 2020.

Pam - I think you may be right about Quick Fit! I like that series - it reminds me a little bit of Project You except Gilad doesn't have yoga/Pilates.

Waves, wishiwasinhawaii.

It's been pretty crazy here, but I have been able to fit in Summer of Strength, so that's good!

Donna, I thought the ear infections would get me out of the business trip, but no such luck. I talked to my boss about it, and she said I'd have to get a note from the doctor saying I can't fly, but the doctor said the infection has cleared up enough that I can fly, so I had no way out. I'm leaving tomorrow. It's a short flight (only an hour) so it should be ok, but between this and COVID, I was hoping I could stay home. I also looked into Amtrak, but they suspended the service between the station near me and my destination when COVID started and haven't restarted it yet, so that wasn't an option. Glad to hear your bathroom is almost done. Can you put a shower curtain there until the door comes in?

Sherry, very glad to hear the Shingles is improving! Good thing you caught it early. My brother had it last year and took it easy for at least a month. He had a mild case.

Pam, kayaking sounds fun! When I get back from my trip I'm going to go to the beach and just sit there for a few days. I just want to relax!

Gilad Total Body Sculpt (Vol. 1)

Hi Ladies,

I did all three workouts on this DVD from his (#20, #22 & #24) shows. I think this first volume is from 2004 and they were some good total body workouts. He also has incorporated more functional strength exercises and stretch into the moves, which is nice, but like most of his workouts (filmed for TV) they cut to commercial and you have to keep exercising. On DVD you have to pause the DVD to complete the reps before he moves on to the next exercise. I'm more of a fan of his Total Body Sculpt workouts (and TBS plus) than most of his previous (very early) shows. For nostalgia I might bring them out every once in a while, but it's not often.

We had a follow-up vet appt. for our 18 year old cat today. She seems to be doing okay with the adjusted medicine (changing her chemo to another type/brand) and upping her pain med dosage. Her white blood cell count was low though, so that we have to have her bloodwork checked again in another two weeks. We still don't know how long she'll be with us, but no one knows. When she starts hiding from us (and isolating herself) not eating, etc. we'll have more of an indication.

wishiwasinhawaii, I don't like the sound of your boss one bit! What a tyrant.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I ended up adding on Lucy's Posture Challenge Day # 5 which has a sort of Pilates/Yoga feel to it. There were some planks, not my favorite and I used a chair for a modification (Lucy shows this mod in her workout which is nice) and then I added on an Essentrics - it was a Live workout from 7/25 w/ Sahra.

Whenever I do Essentrics, I always want to do more, so today I did:

Essentrics Live from 7/21 w/ Meg - this was a 45 min class for "swimmers" - it focused on shoulders and hips. It was also filmed outdoors in Costa Rica, so very pretty scenery.

Up for Jessica today is Pilates Tabata, which I may attempt at lunch time. It sounds scary, but I think I did it once before and it was ok.

wishiwasinhawaii - ugh, sorry you still have to go. I agree with Pam on your boss.

Pam - wow! Good job. I agree with you that i prefer those to the really dated Gilad stuff - I mean, those are nice w/ the beach scenery and all that and for a dose of nostalgia but I do like his focus on more functional moves in his later series. I hear you on the pet situation - we are in the same place w/ our Lab.

Waves, Sherry - how is it going?

Hope everyone has a good day.

Lee Qi Gong for Upper Back and Neck (2004)

Hi Ladies,

My neck was bothering me this AM, and it was probably my pillow. New bed is fine (but firm) so hopefully it will soften up a bit in the next 30 days! So, today I did Lee's Qi Gong for Upper Back and Neck (both seated and standing segments) from 2004. I like how gentle this one is and so soothing. I had intended to do a CS episode but when I opened the case, the DVD for episode I'd wanted to do was elsewhere, lol! I need to get organized, haha. So, I may do the CS in tonight before bedtime!

Donna, I'm looking for those posture episodes with CS, too! My DH could use those sitting at the computer all day. He is so hunched over. I'm enjoying Gilad but yeah...it has to be certain episodes/shows. Those goldilocks workouts that have it all. :-)
