OT - Important question about shaving!

I don’t know why I find this so fascinating but when I was talking to a friend tonight she was telling me that her husband uses four, 5-blade cartridges to shave his face and throws them away after one shave. So basically 20 blades for one shave. When I asked her why so many she said her husband just says he has a tough beard, but it still seems like one, 5-blade cartridge would do the trick. She said they use the Gillette Fusion 5 blades, so it costs them about $16.00 every time he shaves. So if you are married or have a significant other, I’m curious as to how many blades they use for one shave?

That sounds excessive. I'm no expert, but it sounds to me as though his technique is at fault. What kind of shaving gel or foam or oil does he use? Does he soften his whiskers with a hot cloth or steamy shower first?

My dad used to shave after he got a shower so his whiskers softened up a bit.
He used the old twin blade type razors until I got him an electric shaver to use in a rehab facility. The electric shaver wasn't nearly as good as the twin blade razor.

And he was faithful to the old Rise shaving cream til they stopped making it, then switched to one made by old spice, but the can of some kind of fancy gel that turned into foam seemed to last just about forever. It lived in his suitcase so he had something to use when he traveled. Not sure how he wound up with that one, but he did like it.

Oh, and yes, dad changed razor blades regularly, but nothing like the situation you mention.

when DH uses a manual blade, he uses the 5-blade fusion by Gilette about 4-5 times (cleaning and drying after each use) before tossing it.

he usually uses a Norelco electric shaver.

Bunny - i think you're referring to Edge (gel turns to foam).

Wow, that's expensive! My husband uses a 5 blade razor, shaves every morning and probably uses the same blades for 2-3 weeks, maybe more! Every so often he will complain about razor burn and I remind he should change the blades more frequently. He isn't shy about spending money on things, but for some reason he feels like he's wasting/throwing away money by changing the blades because they're so expensive.

Wowza. I'm pretty sure the razor in my bathroom outdates my children...

Okay, okay. Maybe not quite that old...but I can't imagine changing blades daily! (That's incredibly expensive!)

Talking

My hubby uses the 5 blade gillette and has it for a few shaves. He is bald so even uses it to shave his head.

I can't imagine going through blades as quickly as your friend, we would be broke just buying the blades
