Roku and downloads

Am I the only one with a roku that just learned there is a place for USB ?
My roku ulta is great with my new cathe downloads. Transferred downloads from laptop to USB port then popped USB in my roku ultra and they played great on a Roku media player.

I have a ROKU Express and can stream files on my android phone sd card with the Web Video Caster app
(one of the benefits of the lifetime WVC upgrade for $3.99).
The WVC app is great for streaming from websites too.
Also can stream laptop files to the ROKU using PLEX or Play On but it is more complicated to set up and too annoying LOL.

The TV I use for workouts has a USB port that plays video files without needing a ROKU but is fussy about the proper format for audio.

On another TV with a Chromecast, I can play a video file with VLC media player on a laptop and render it to the Chromecast. The Video source can be the hard drive or usb flash drive. Chromecast works well with my android phone and WVC app but does not stream or mirror smoothly from my laptop browser so I still use a HDmi cable for streaming from the laptop to the TV.
