68+ Yrs Old -- What Are You Doing for Workouts?

4/7/17
I am 68.5 years old, and wondered what other ppl my age are doing for fitness. I have my share of problems with bone on bone arthritis in the L hip, and am considering hip joint replacement this year, finally. So that limits me somewhat for a lot of things I would like to be doing.

Current Activity:
Callanetics Express new DVD, love it, all 5 sections
Pilates Side Kick Series
Diane von Furstenberg exercises from 1975 book, mainly Pilates w/ some Jane Fonda side kicks thrown in.
Joyce Vedral upper body segment from Fat Burning Workout
Walking in front of the TV news or a show like Big Bang Theory

Looking forward to responses from the rest of you.
Carolyne

Hi Carolyne!
I'm not quite your age at 59, but I do have some joint issues. Here's my list of favorite activities:
~walking
~swimming - the best for joint issues according to my son the kinesiologist
~Essentrics - doing level 1 training
~gentle stretchy yoga - I teach once a week & try to stretch daily
~pilates - focus on abs & glutes
~low impact cardio workouts - Jessica Smith for example
~rebounding - while watching tv or to the occasional walking workout
~stepping (on a mini stepper) - while watching tv

I'm 67 and I do all kinds of workouts - Pilates, Classical Stretch, yoga, Cathe (ICE recently), Jessica Smith (just started her 6-week transformation - for the second time), etc. I like (and have) many, many others. I'm retired so I get to workout almost every morning. Love it!

I'll be 64 in August and thankfully only have arthritis problems in my hands, wrists and feet. That still makes anything bodyweight for the upper body problematical unless I modify. Which I do, freely. I also have some lumbar spinal stenosis that DOES NOT like a lot of Pilates, so I do little of that

I'm also a BBT fan, although the last couple seasons are kind of

*I do LOTS of walking outdoors
*Water aerobics including deep water work with resistance gloves.
*Ocean swimming
*Non-power yoga--down dog is fine but no endless vinyasas please.
*Jessica Smith--I do some walking videos jogging on the rebounder for a little more intensity. I also use her weight work but modify the plank-y stuff
*Classical Stretch/Essentrics--I have seasons 4, 8, and 10 and kind of cycle through them; also have quite a few of the dvds
*Z-Team Zumba and Shine dance aerobics
*Kettlebells when the mood strikes; Margaret Richard for weights sometimes but I can take the repetitiveness only rarely
*I still love step but I can't do it too often or it aggravates my back. Love Rob Glick, Patrick G, guilty pleasure Ballroom Aerobics, and my once a month "do I still have it?" test, Gin Miller's Intense Moves.

I intend to keep moving until I can't any more.

Right now I do mostly Cathe strength training using weights that are heavy for me but lighter than she uses - plus mainly walking for cardio, along with Cathe's MMA Boxing and Low Impact All Out HiiT.

I also do a stretching routine that is supposed to be good for hips.

I am 72

am 67 and have had a terrible heart breaking year and some serious injuries. so for the past 5 months I have been doing jane Adams Gentle yoga and Yoga for seniors. i do 1.5 hours in the morning. I like to do another complementary Lee Holden or some ppilates that I can handle in the afternoon. I also lay on the floor at night if I am watching tv with my band and pilates circle, or do some stuff on a chair .
well, I have had a tough time. I was doing the Firm, fitPrimes, Jillian -you name it. I loved cardio and weights. love my firm girls.
surprising, I feel much better and have had some very nnice results from the yoga and pilates.
good luck ! the boomers do not give up easily.
