KCM's Split Sessions

I am wondering what people think of this workout Unfortunately, there are NO reviews in the reviews section (odd since Kelly is so popular!). When I did a search of the GD section, I did find that people seemed to like it, especially the lower body section. However, several people in my checkin mentioned that some of the moves bothered their back--I've had low back issues of late, so I wanted to get more info about this. Thanks!

Beth,
One collage member, Saundra, does a wonderful job writing up reviews on her blog for the workouts she does. I hope it's okay to post the link...
http://crm549.blogspot.com/search?q=split+session She really likes both workouts.

I love this workout, but I can see where some of the moves can be a little dangerous if you are not careful. There is one shoulder move that I modify with a lighter weight. I didn't feel like I had to modify the entire workout and I love the lower body section. For reference, this is my favorite KCM weight workout. I do love her first 30 minute weight one too, but prefer this one because there is a lower body section. I traded muscle definition, because I never reached for it and think the latest one is just ok.

I haven't done this in a while but it is one of my favorites. When I do it again, I will post specifics as to why I like it.

I Split Sessions!!! the lower body workout is my favorite and wth all the premixes Kelly put in this one, your choices are endless. I have a weak back at times and SS didn't bother me at all. Of course there are some moves you need to be careful with, just like in any other workout, but nothing really stands out to me that would be risky for someone with a back issue.
I say GO FOR IT, Beth!! this one was definitely one of my best buys of 2011

Thanks everyone! Judy, I especially appreciate your comments knowing that you have a weak back.

I have and like Muscle Definition--I actually did Workout #2 today. But I do modify some of that; e.g., I skip the upright rows, and I don't like the plies w/back rows (today I just did plies).

A few other quick questions for you all! First, I don't have a full step, so I wouldn't be able to use an incline step like Kelly uses. I know Lauren modifies without, but I'm just wondering if not having the step would detract from the workout. Second, I hate all-4s work for the lower body, although I don't mind other types of lower body floorwork--is the bonus lower body segment entirely all 4s work, or is it just the first few moves?

Thanks again!

Hi Beth -

I like Split Sessions a lot, I do modify a few of the lower body moves though. For the move that she calls "leg press" I just do a static lunge, the squat/inversion move I do a squat/heel lift or tap in, and for the deadlift/rock I just do a normal deadlift in a 4-4 count or something like that. The side lunge and the rest of the lower body moves I do as presented.

I really like Kelly and her workouts, and but some of the twists she adds to traditional moves don't really work for me. So I just modify...no biggie.

I really feel the standing band work, holy cow!

I like all of Kelly's weight workouts but SS is near the top of my favorites I think.

HTH!

Tara, thanks, that does help! I'm usually okay with most of the twists that Kelly puts on things, but at the same time, I don't mind modifying if something doesn't feel right to me. Someone mentioned a problem with the good mornings--I don't know if Kelly does these differently or what, but I do them in other workouts (including with my kettlebell) with no problems (being careful of my back, of course).

Beth - For the Good Mornings, Kelly holds one dumbell at her chest with her arms crossed and just bends forward. I am okay with that one, I actually like that move.

Someone mentioned a shoulder move in the upper body workout, there is a one arm shoulder press where she uses power, plus she has 2 dumbells in one hand (I think 10s!), I just use one dumbell and press up normally, I skip the power or explosive motion.

I have read elsewhere that move has caused issues for other people.

Beth, I have this workout as well and sometimes don't want to pull out the step so I will use my swiss ball, ugi ball or nothing. IMO it doesn't deviate from the workout at all.
