I do, depending on what it is.

Pushing my non-gas/non-motorized lawnmower around the yard for 30 minutes to an hour is definitely a workout.

Hauling and digging and uprooting and sawing off branches is definitely a workout.

Picking a few weeds here and there and putting some mulch around the beans, however, is not.

During the nicer months I spend at least 8 hours a week outdoors doing yardwork and most of it is hard work, but I don't consider it my workout for the day.

Absolutely! I spent 4 1/2 hours in the yard on Sunday, I was exhausted afterward. But I think its always a good exhausted feeling, because you can look around and see what you've accomplished.

My DH says it is. We've got 1 acre of property (out of nearly 14) which is planted with 40+ fruit trees, a melon patch, blackberry bushes and grapevines and corn... and we've also got weeds and sunflowers growing like wildfire, which need to constantly be pulled up and/or mowed. It is quite a workout! And then DH is struggling with our heavy clay soil, trying to set fence posts (for 4,000 feet of fence) on his days off. I haven't been able to help because I I just had a cesarean recently, but now that the doctor has given me the O.K. to go back to regular activities, I have no more excuses! Except now it's way too hot outside- in the high 90's or low 100's every day!

Depends on what I do and how much time. We have been working on a big landscape project so I have been working hard for hours at a time. These I count and so does my body! My upper and lower body felt VERY worked out. If I went out and dug a couple small holes and stuck some plants in the ground I wouldn't.

I guess I asked the question because I was so exhausted by the end of the day, that I couldn't possibly think of putting in a dvd and working out. Then I thought, "I don't feel this spent with any of my planned workouts". The bonus was seeing instead results with my yard...wish that were true for my butt and thighs!!

Tina, you definitely worked hard. This time of the year I have major DOMS in my upper body from yard work, because the weather is too icky to do yard work during the winter months, so getting our yard back in shape is pretty hard. We have over 2 acres that needs constant attention.

I only have one half acre, but I think we must of built on a "rock garden" because I can't plant anything without using a pick to first dig up all the rock. Our soil is terrible. My upper back and shoulders are very tired after digging and picking.

Mowing is another great workout for me as well. I insist on doing the lawn instead of my husband, b/c I feel so good after walking for a steady period of time pushing the mower, which causes a slight resistance.
