The Kindle Fire that my mom passed along to me in 2011 when she decided the screen wasn't as good for reading developed a bulge on the back Monday night. I powered it off and contacted Amazon via chat. It was slow but helpful. They had me send a couple of photos and then I called them yesterday and they offered 20% off toward the purchase of a new device (but the agent told me it's really good toward anything Amazon sells and ships). They sent me a mailing label to ship it back. I am concerned about the battery being hazardous but they don't seem to be.
I have another cheap Android tablet that i can use to read ebooks so replacing the Fire isn't a priority at the moment. I thought it was nice that they were willing to offer a credit on a 9 year old device, though.
