Hi Everyone,

This morning was:

CS 1118 - this was a barre routine

Pilates and Yoga w/ Katja - Your Daily Pilates Routine -(20 min). I really enjoyed this routine and Katja's instruction. She has a nice looking channel n You Tube! I plan to do more of her routines in the future - she is calm in her instruction and the setting is pretty too.

I just couldn't bring myself to do the Trifecta workout for today - I just can't put my finger on it - but I get burned out on her stuff pretty quickly. It isn't like it is bad, or she is not a good instructor, but...i'm not drawn to it - which is good to know b/c I was starting to get tempted to re-subscribe and I hardly used her stuff last year. I think Jessica V's Pilates is a good subscription for me to have and then fill in the rest of it w/ You Tube. Katja's channel is nice and I have been meaning to do more w/ Moving Mango, too.

Later today I will get my Pahla B workout in and possibly a walk.

It is nice to see some sunshine!

Carol - thanks for that report - I'm glad the set finally arrived!

Dana - hope all goes well both with the dr's recommendations and your car.

Waves, everyone....

Hi everyone!

My bloodwork came back today and the results were as expected. There is ample room for improvement in cholesterol and glucose values. Fortunately, neither one requires medication - yet, but I must make changes now or in a year or so I might need them. My HDL has always been great and my triglycerides number is also good is but my LDL has increased quite a bit and I must correct it. Losing weight and watching my diet a little closer should do the trick for improving my numbers. I can control my diet and I already love to exercise so I'm way ahead of the game. At least I have the baseline numbers and I know what I need to work on.

Carol, thanks for your input on Define and Align. My set came in today and I previewed the first 3 DVDs. I'm in agreement with you that production quality is not great, but I really liked the workouts I previewed. I'm going to enjoy them and I'll get to pull out and use my Fluidity barre. The Barre Bootcamp looks tough! I'm planning to do it tomorrow.

My car is still in the shop and I expect to be without it for several days. I hate having to depend on my husband for transportation.

Sunny and in the 40's here all week. I'll take it!

I'll check in with a real workout tomorrow.
Waves to Donna, Christine, Linda, Brenda and Cheri!

txhsmom 02-25-21 08:26 PM

Today's workout was

Define & Align - Upper Body Strength - 30 minutes

This was a straight up traditional strength workout - 45 seconds of each exercise, followed by 15 seconds of rest/set up time for the next exercise. 3 circuits of 3 exercises, each set of exercises is repeated before moving on to the next set of exercises. She finishes with some plank and back work on the floor. I was sweating pretty good by the time I finished. I had to modify a couple of the more intense exercises - walking planks, renegade rows.

Pros - traditional strength work
Different setting than the Barre Bootcamp workout - this was in a home in front of French doors looking outside.
I played the workout without the music and could hear just fine.
Gave me a workout!

Cons - I'd still say the film quality wasn't the greatest, but I didn't notice it as much on this workout. These workouts feel a bit like they were filmed for YouTube, not DVDs.

Still glad I bought this set.

Dana - Glad your bloodwork wasn't as bad as you feared it might be. You can make these changes!

Donna - Glad you got ahold of yourself before you resubscribed to Trifecta Pilates. I do that from time to time with PBL and always end up wishing I hadn't.

Good morning!

Leslie 4 Fast Miles - Mile 1 & 2 - 30min
Define & Align Barre Bootcamp - 31min

I really liked Barre Bootcamp and I'm not much of a barre person. Workout was efficient, moved quickly and Karen didn't rep you to death. At the end I felt nicely worked out but not wiped out. Carol, you are right that the production quality is something you'd expect to see on youtube but I don't really mind. If the rest of the workouts are as good as this one was, then 49.99 is money well spent for me. No streaming problems, no ads, calendar all set up for you and Karen is a good, no frills or unnecessary chatter instructor. So far so good!

Gotta run some errands today. I'll check back with everyone later.

Hi Everyone

This morning was:

CS 1119
Moving Mango Pilates - Muscle Strength Full Body Pilates (20 min)

Yesterday, I did get my Pahla B workout in - it was functional fitness and also walked my dog - the weather seems to be improving - hope the trend continues!!

Today - more Pahla and then hopefully another walk.

I'm looking into a seat cushion for my work chair - I think that the sitting is the cause of my back/glute pain - I saw one on Amazon. I'm not sure what rabbit hole I went through on an internet search to find it - maybe Bob & Brad - I watch their stuff a lot - they are PTs and often have good advice.

Dana - good luck w/ the dietary changes. I will throw this out there - do you drink unfiltered coffee - french press, espresso shots, etc.? If so, that can raise LDL. I went through a French Press phase and my LDL became elevated, I switched to filter coffee, my LDL went down. No other changes. It is weird how the body reacts to things.

Carol - yes, I'm glad I resisted re-subscribing to Trifecta. I like her and her workouts, but not enough to subscribe - every once in awhile works for me. I liked Moving Mango today - she is very sweet - she speaks very softly though so you need to turn up the volume. I did enjoy Katja yesterday, too. Both offer lots of free content on You Tube.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

fanofladyvols 02-26-21 05:12 PM

Donna I hope you find that a seat cushion helps. I had mentioned your chair because way back in the day I changed chairs and after about a week my back improved. Also good to see that CS helped. Hope you find other ways to get your movement without pain as well.

Carol snow is an ugly word, lol. It sounds like you're enjoying those workouts!

Dana I'm very independent too and having to depend on someone else for transportation is a total bummer. Hope they fix your car quickly!

Christine I hope your 10 minute journey is going well.

I'm having to share my Shred Shed more and more with my husband. He's now let me give him index cards for mobility that he uses. It's kinda strange walking in on him using my equipment and stuff. For years I have bugged him to exercise..now he is...and I'm feeling prickly about it, lol. Aren't I awful?

Anyway, I'm developing calluses on my hands learning kettlebells and loving it. Still working on the clean but loving all sorts of workouts I'm doing. Currently, my rotation is adding squat challenge and Single deadlift challenge to a basic kettlebell workout with mobility afterwards. Then rest days in between. I also finished all the Herman Wouk books and it was sad to not know what happens next with these characters. Not sure what classics I'll attack next.

Waves to all and well wishes Brenda!!

Nope, you're not awful, Linda! I understand you perfectly. I too have been bugging my dh for years to exercise (lost cause!) but when he bought a treadmill and moved it into into MY workout room (with my permission) and then used my equipment, I felt uneasy and very possesive of MY personal space and MY equipment. LOL! His enthusiasm for working out lasted a week or so and that was few years ago! :D :D Yep, I understand you.

txhsmom 02-26-21 07:39 PM

Today's workouts were

Define & Align - Pilates Precision - 30 minutes;
Treadmill Walk - 20 minutes

I liked this mat-based Pilates workout - it wasn't too easy and it wasn't too hard. Karen was good to give modifications for the harder moves. This wasn't the traditional pilates sequence - thankfully, I find that very boring - but it wasn't too routine and it wasn't too "creative" either.

Linda - I am enjoying this set - it's really right up my alley - barre, pilates and traditional strength work. I can already tell I will be subscribing to Karen's streaming site when I get tired of these workouts and want some new ones. As for your husband using your stuff, well, it's change, and that always takes some getting used to.

Donna - Hope your good weather continues. It's hard to believe that it will be March on Monday.

Dana - I really liked Karen's Barre Bootcamp a lot! You're right, she doesn't rep you to death and I really like the additional light weight moves that she incorporates.

Waves to Brenda ~

Carol, I looked at Karen's subscription site and couldn't quite figure out if her membership only gives you priority access to her youtube workouts (and calendar based on those) or does she have a library of exclusive workouts just for her members? It wasn't clear to me.

I don't think there's any exclusive workouts like Jessica has on her site. I'm thinking you would be paying primarily for a calendar.

Carol

Thanks, Carol! That's what I suspected. Streaming, especially if I try to work out after 8am, can be problematic for me. Freezing is an issue. I'm glad to have Karen's DVDs.

donnamp 02-27-21 02:26 PM

Hi Everyone,

Today's workouts:

CS 1120 - this was a standing and floor routine

Trifecta Pilates - 7 Day Pilates Challenge Days 5 and 6 - I enjoyed both of these full body workouts. I am now semi-considering re-subscribing...but we shall see. I have a Robin Long/Balanced Life Challenge coming up on Monday - so I may lose interest in Beth/Trifecta by then.

Outdoor walk - it stopped raining and is relatively mild so DD and I walked today. I may take my dog for a short walk later.

Carol - Beth and I had a nice date today - I'm afraid she is drawing me in - HELP! LOL! I have to admit, I'm just such a sucker for workout calendars, even if I don't follow them 100%.

Dana - is that Oliver? He is a cutie!

Waves, everyone,

Donna

txhsmom 02-27-21 07:24 PM

Today's workout was

Define & Align - Functional Cardio Blast - 30 minutes

I thought I might absolutely hate this workout - I'm not a big cardio fan - but I didn't hate it. It may not be my favorite, that would be entirely too much to ask, but it wasn't awful - it was challenging though. The setup is 3 body weight strength moves followed by one purely cardio move, each done for 45 seconds, followed by a 20 second rest. I was afraid that there might be a lot of work on the hands, but there wasn't. Karen continued to give modifications. It's about 22 minutes of work and then you go to the floor for some back and core work and a stretch.

Donna - Resist the evil call of Beth! You can do it!

Dana - My streaming is sometimes okay - but you just never know for sure. And for the amount of $$ that I pay, you would think that it would be reliable. AT&T Fiber is coming to my street within the next few months and I'll probably give it a try.

Hello, all!!! I never intend to drop off the face of the earth. But life... ya know? I just finished another college class and was the main event at our church's business meeting since I'm the bookkeeper... so that took plenty of prep time. Now that's behind me. One more small college class to go this quarter: a 1 credit merchandising business bookkeeping simulation class I have 2 weeks to finish. Should be doable.

Add to that picking out a new laptop after hours of research. And we're researching a different co-op/cottage school situation for our 2 youngest boys next year and probably changing Boy Scout troops... my brain has been so full! Specific exercise has been a bit spotty lately. I have been stepping plenty and trying to remember to do push ups, tricep dips, and lunges.

Dana, I'm so excited for you that Oliver is fitting into your life and home so well! I love his name as well. I have a thing for giving cats human names. :p I'm also SO excited about Jessica Smith's new stuff coming out. I'm not sure what I'll do if she goes to streaming. I have plenty of her workouts but I also love the accountability it would create in my head if I was part of a group doing her workouts.

Carol, just reading about your sweet hands...I'm sorry! They must hurt. :( I pray your doctor can help you out.

Donna, I love physical therapy, but.... covid. It's a pain, right?? We'll hope the SI belt helps, but if not PT can be a lifesaver.

See you all in March! :D :music: Yikes, that's Monday!

fanofladyvols 02-27-21 09:32 PM

Dana you totally get me! is your new avatar Oliver? Regardless, that's a handsome face!!

I think part of what gets me prickly about my husband in the Shred Shed is that he doesn't put my equipment back. I take very good care of it and yeah, I'm particular. There's no point to fussing because he seems to be serious. So I'll just grumble here because I am glad he's actually exercising. Thanks for letting me whine guys. :)

Brenda you definitely have been busy! Lots of changes for you and your sons, too!

Carol I hope AT&T ends up being a better service for you. I give up on ours.

Donna still no outdoor walks possible here. Too much rain. I think challenges are fun to look forward to. I think the shorter ones work best for me. I lose interest in a 30 day challenge.

I did Firm Strong heart today but did swings and planks instead of the floor ab exercises. It's been so long since I did one and enjoyed it. I will pick up my challenges and am coming close to finishing them soon.

High fives to all and hugs to Christine!

Usia 02-27-21 09:42 PM

Yes, Donna and Linda. That's Oliver! He is so handsome I had to show him off to everyone!:love:

Usia 02-28-21 09:38 AM

Good morning!

Define & Align Upper Body Strength - 30min
JS HIIT Walk off 30 Day Plan set - 30min

I'm really enjoying D&A set. Efficient, straightforward and thorough and time flies! Like Carol, I also modified renegade row pushups as well as walking planks. This set is a keeper!

Speaking of Jessica Smith, I think her new 12-week program will at least be a download but looks like she's still be using purple player platform. If she also has streaming than I may try it down the road, but at this point I'm not interested in downloading purple player. I don't think that she'll be releasing dvds and that's too bad. I understand her business decision if she doesn't, but still too bad. Jessica updated some info on her website for Lift & Shift checkin and she's making some reference to purple player which is what makes me think that these will at least be downloads. https://jessicasmithtv.com/lift-and-...-two-check-in/

Gotta run and clean up the house. I'll check back later.

Hi Everyone,

This morning was:

CS 1121 - all standing - it was for arms, but really, like all of them, total body

Pahla B - February Challenge Day 7 - Power walk

Trifecta Pilates - 7 Day Pilates Challenge Day 4 -Arm - this was a nice unweighted arm routine. Gosh, I am getting tempted to subscribe, but I do have to think about how much I would use it - she does have a good amount on You Tube...so maybe I should concentrate on those first.

I am not sure what else I will get in today - it is dreary - my daughter is at a horse show/event. I may pop over to watch her - but I'm not sure how much I could see of it - it is "cross country" - so it isn't like I could watch very much of it.

One thing I do notice, her mental health is way better when she is active w/ her horse. February was a rough month b/c of the weather and she didn't get out as much with him - and, then she started spending more time on social media and that is never good.

Anyway - I may just do a stretch later.

Dana -thanks for the info on Jessica - If it is download, I will probably wait to buy it unless there is a discount. I am not sure I'm up for it yet...time will tell.

Brenda - wow you have been busy!!

Nice workouts, everyone!

I'm not sure what I want to do for March. I have a love/hate relationship w/ rotations. Lucy has a new one for March but it is a running type rotation and as much as I would love to run, I don' t think it is in the cards for me. I never did do her January or February rotation, so I may do one of those instead.

Sort of thinking of a theme of CS - Lucy - Pilates - Walk

Hopefully the weather will be improving and outdoor walks will become a regular thing.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

fanofladyvols 02-28-21 12:51 PM

Dana is Oliver considered a tortoise or tabby? I confess I don't know the difference but do love his coloring! Also, thanks for the JS update. I had a feeling I would have to pass. I'm not downloading purple player. It would have been nice to work out with her doing something new but I'll survive without it if it's not on dvd just fine.

Donna I understand the love hate relationship with rotations. Sounds like you are settling on a good compromise though!

Today is super blustery and I'm feeling like taking it easy. I'll update what I settle on.

Waves to all!!

txhsmom 02-28-21 06:48 PM

Today's workout was

Define & Align - Lower Body Strength - 30 minutes

I was tired before starting this one and almost didn't do it for that reason. But once you get past circuit one, it isn't too bad. I will be sore tomorrow and I may not be able to walk later tonight, but I'm glad I got my workout in. This one is straight up weight training - no creative, crazy, compound type moves, so it's pretty easy to focus on what you need to be doing. This is the type of weight training I like; often Jessica Smith's stuff focuses on compound moves and I have trouble figuring out the right amount of weight to lift. Not so with these workouts. The setting was back in the house, looking out the double French doors - it looks like there's a lake in the background.

Linda - it was windy and cool here today as well. We've just hung out at home, other than a trip to the grocery store. I have clean sheets to look forward to tonight!

Donna - Nice job Donna. I signed up for Beth's challenge, but didn't do a single one of the workouts. I do think I'll do Robin's challenge this week. I almost did a Pahla workout today, but managed to resist. Her workouts for March look good to me - anything "shoulder friendly" sounds good.

Dana - This set is definitely a keeper! I agree with your assessment of efficient, straightforward and thorough. I can't say that I've disliked any of the workouts so far. They are challenging though - plenty of room to grow. Oliver is good looking! He reminds me of the stray cat that adopted my grandmother when I was young.

Brenda - Wow, you have been busy! Good going! Thanks for the well wishes for my hands - getting old is the pits. I'll be interested to see what Jessica releases. I'm hoping for Debbie as a modifier so that there's some hope for old folks like me.

Carol

Linda, Oliver is a brown tabby. He's beige with almost black stripes especially on his back. His markings are strong and very symmetrical. He's gorgeous but his best features are his sunny disposition and trusting, playful nature. Not a mean bone in his body. He's always happy and cheerful. We totally love him and would never, ever give him up and don't understand why anyone would.:love:
