Gaining inches doing Brazil Butt Lift
So, I’ve been watching the Brazil Butt Lift infomercial (just 2 times, okay?) and decided that I have to have it. Of course, I had to do my research, so I read some of the old threads about it here on VF. I’m only really interested in High & Tight and Bum Bum, but I’m willing to buy the entire set because I’m a vidiot (see vidiot thread). However, I had a question based on some of the comments I saw in old threads.
I’m a little concerned about the fact that some VFers said that, while their butt was more toned and lifted, they gained an inch or so in their hips. I don’t want to add any inches, so does anyone know why that might happen? Does it have to do with the type of rotation people did? |
"Toned and lifted" = more muscle = larger, unless you also lose a significant amount of fat. Even if you do lose fat, if you're going to concentrate on glute training, it's unlikely your butt will get a lot smaller, it'll just change to a more pleasing and functional shape.
|
I find that barre workouts lift my booty & my measurements for that area go up a bit. But I'll take it since I like the lifted & round shaped booty on me. DH doesn't mind either.
I have not done Brazil Butt Lift (even though I have both sets) so I can't really comment on that. Maybe I will try to fit in some of the workouts....I'm having super results with Barre3 & P57. My 40 year old booty could use some more work. |
When I did a modified BBL rotation (the fat loss one) I did lose inches from my waist and I think my thighs but not my hips. I didn't gain in the hips though. It was only four weeks though so any gain and loss would be minimal--I just do not see fast, dramatic changes in my body.
|
When I did the rotation (combo rotation), my hips LOOKED narrower. But with a rounder higher butt, the hip measurement might be more even so -- I didn't do measurements.
I've done BBL workouts the last couple days. It's my go-to midwinter program - makes me happy. |

I will feel weird not doing a Tonique workout. I think this is one reason why I don't like rotations or systems. It's not like my other DVDs are going anywhere or will disintegrate without use, but I feel like I have to rotate through them regularly for some unknown reason. |

That was me. I think the bigger issue was that I didn't lose any weight. So if I had gone down pounds-wise, my entire body would have shrunk, too. As it was, I got a great booty that still, two years after my initial rotation and after a year or so of only sporadic workouts, no serious rotations, looks better than ever. I absolutely ADORED my BBL rotation, even if I didn't do it properly. My High & Tight disk was damaged, and I didn't like the workout enough to get it replaced, so I did a hybrid BBL and barre rotation (I was doing BBL when I first saw the Fluidity infomercial and recognized some of Leandro's moves!). So I totally think you could keep going with your Toniques. I've seen a lot of reviewers complain about the lack of cardio in BBL. Evidently those people forgot to do Bum Bum, which is TOTALLY cardio. It's nothing BUT cardio! ...Except that it's really a secretly disguised, highly choreographed, 30-minute squatfest and lunge-a-rama. I think I'd been doing the workouts for a year before I realized what was really going on in that workout! :p It's so fun and such high energy, though, that you don't even notice it. The workout flies by and I'm always dripping sweat by the end. My rotation looked something like this: Cardio days: Bum Bum Strength/Toning days: Any kind of barre Rest days: Cardio Axe I think you'll have a lot of fun with it. As a veteran of Tonique, I'm not sure what kind of results you'll see... BBL may not be advanced enough for you, although I still recommend it because it's probably the most purely fun set I've ever done. Even now I'll still pull out BumBum if I'm not really in the mood to exercise, just because it's always a great, tough, happy workout. |
I did the classic rotation in December... well, I did it for three weeks and then I quit because I could not take one more second of Leandro and his bum bum talk. I did not gain inches with this rotation but my glutes got back to a rounder shape that I had lost a bit after 2 years of TA. BBL was also great to get some strength back in my thigh muscles (I think this is something TA neglects). I should note that I tried to quit TA this fall and did 3 weeks of Barre3 but I gained one inch in my waist during that time so I quit. So I was pretty happy with my BBL experience and it convinced me that I can move on from TA for a while.
My favorite workout of the set was definitely Bum Bum and I agree wholeheartedly with PrairieGem :): Quote:

I'm doing a BBL rotation right now too. I think Bum Bum and High and Tight are the most important components of this set for reshaping the glutes and thighs. Sculpt is a good strength workout, but it's not unlike other full-body strength workouts. Cardio Axe does have you move your hips, and that may help too, but I think those first two are the most focused on the area.
This woman's results are very inspiring. Of course, she did control her eating too. |

Thanks for all these helpful responses. Keep them coming. I think the key for me will be to stick to the rotation I choose, aside from subbing in my preferred cardio (just realized I can also do the first 30 min of the new Dream Body Cardio DVDs). I'm not too worried about BBL being less intense than Tonique. I think the change will be good for me, a way to shock my system by doing something a little different. |
I did the classic rotation in November. I pretty much did all the workouts as scheduled and sometimes added Classical Stretch at night. I was soooo happy with the results. My legs and abs shrunk and my butt became tighter. I didn't gain inches, but I think it was because the cardio was burning fat off around my hips. I even lost a few pounds that hadn't budged in YEARS!!! I knew I wasn't crazy because people were commenting on my appearance. Here were some examples:
1. My sister, who never says ANYTHING about my appearance, wanted to know what I was doing because of how good my lower body looked. I have been working out for 15 years and this was the first time she was truly curious about my workouts. 2. My husband also had a lot of good things to say...nough said on that. 3. I had to go to my doctor for an exam and the first thing she said was that I had lost weight. She had to feel my stomach and commented on how strong my ab muscles were. BBL was amazing for my abs. I had a baby in August of 2012 and I swear my abs look better now after that rotation. In December, I decided to focus on Ballet Beautiful and Essentrics DVDs and continued to shrink. It was shocking to have so many comments about how small I had gotten. This was all while I was eating shortbread cookies and chocolate daily (tis the season, right?). I wasn't even doing cardio at this time but I lost a few more pounds and am now at my lowest adult weight since high school. This month I decided to add more cardio so I bought the Ruthless set to see if it would be a good fit for me. I am also continuing with Ballet Beautiful and some Barre3 workouts. I just don't have a lot of time to workout so I am thrilled I can tighten up without killing myself. I think I may add Bum Bum back in too since it really is a great workout. Hope this helps! |
I have both the original BBL set and the Master series, and I LOVE the original one! Each time I do it, I shrink down. The Master series, on the other hand, caused me to go up in inches, which I wasn't happy about.
I wrote long reviews on Amazon about each set (under my Amazon username "Leanne") that give details about my experiences. :) I've been thinking that my lower half needs some help . . . so perhaps it's time to get out BBL again! I've just done it so many times that I'm a bit burnt out on it! |

So I read your review of the second BBL. Do you have an idea of why you gained inches doing the Master series? That's what makes me nervous. People had great results from the first series, but that doesn't mean that I will have the same experience. Do you think it was the specific exercises that caused you to go up in inches? |
Even though you don't like dance, I recommend trying Cardio Axe once. I don't like dance at all either, but for some reason I could tolerate this. I think because it is so hips/thighs/glutes oriented.
Also, I recommend choosing the music down option when offered, like for High and Tight. You don't need the music on those workouts, and it drowns Leandro's instruction out on them because of the way the audio was mixed. I find the music on High and Tight to be very annoying, personally! |

I've been thinking a lot about this ever since I did the workout, and I'm honestly not sure. The Master Series has more traditional moves like squats and lunges, whereas the original BBL has a lot of lying leg lifts, etc., and I think that that just works better for my hourglass shape. Ballet Beautiful also has that same effect on me -- it really slims things down! I honestly don't think you can go wrong with the original set. I haven't heard of anyone who has gained inches on it. You could also sell it on eBay or Amazon if you don't like it or trade it her. (I sold my FT25 on eBay and my Insanity set on Craig's List once I was done with them.) Hope that helps! :) |

Another plug for the original Brazil Butt Lift. I had really good results with it too. I just wish Leandro wasn't so annoying! I only used Bum Bum and H&T. It slimmed my thighs, but what I wasn't expecting was the sneaky core work from the balancing in Bum Bum, so my midsection looked pretty darn good after a month too. I wish I could mute Leandro and that annoying music too, but I still need to hear the cues because they transition pretty quickly sometimes. |
BBL remains one of my most fun ever workouts! I hesitated before buying but I was so glad after I did. With the different rotations Leandro offers in the guidebook I've done the one with the most cardio emphasis. Not because I wanted to lose weight, I just didn't want to gain inches like you said. Which luckily I haven't. I wish all my workouts were this fun.
ETA: I've only tried the original series. |

I think you could probably sometimes sub Bum Bum for tonique if you wanted. I like Bum Bum--think it is the most fun so you will want to try it. But to mix it up. Maybe some of Toniques floor work could be a sometimes sub for High and Tight--I haven't really done her floor work so not sure. |

To let you know what High and Tight is like--it's a three-part workout. Standing work with a resistance band around your feet, moving legs in different directions against resistance, with some balance and core challenge. Side-lying work that is very much like Winsor Pilates Buns and Thighs with a resistance band. And last, all-fours work with ankle weights--a variety of different leg lifts, followed by a short inner thigh sequence.

http://videofitness.com/~vfwnk/forum...d.php?t=175804 It's Slim & Lift (too big) that has the most cardio. THAT's the one I think I should do. There is a noticeable difference in the frequency of cardio used across rotations, which could affect people a lot if they generally need cardio and choose a rotation with more toning/strength. Seabliss, I like the sound of High & Tight. ETA: endo/meso hourglass describes me perfectly. I put on muscle and fat very easily which is why I am always careful about what types of workouts I do and how frequently I do them (e.g. too much Cathe just makes me look stocky/boxy) |

Oh gosh, I'm feeling the need to veer off my rotation, now as well! I got the DVDs in a trade, but no background materials
Would BBL be good for handling saggy hamstrings as well as glutes? Does anyone have any of the materials that explain what rotation you should choose based on your shape? I'm leaning toward Classic as it seems to be well balanced. I'm also wondering how I can mix and match this w/ Body Gospel! And maybe YBB, too! Donna |

If in doubt, the Classic rotation is the one that they say will work for all body types, so I'd say to go with that one. :) |
I did a *mostly* BBL rotation a few years ago. It did nothing for my butt.
It did tighten up my midsection noticeably. That was nice as my middle is very stubborn. |
Thanks - maybe I should try this - both my mid-section, butt and hamstrings need to be tightened and lifted!!
Is it fun? I guess I should just preview the DVDs, right? ;) Donna |
You know, I pre-viewed the DVDs this morning, it actually looks fun and I like that for the most part that no equipment is needed (I didn't watch Sculpt) - even the cardio looks do-able to me - I'm not a dance person per se unless it is BellyFits or Misty or something of that nature. I'm thinking of following the classic rotation and subbing the cardio when it gets old w/ the cardio from Project You or Body Gospel. Also thinking that if the Sculpt workout gets old I can sub in the Body Gospel sculpt. I may need to spread out the rotation over longer than a month as I would not always have time to do a double workout. I may also throw some YBB in also.
Glad I found this thread, otherwise, this would have been sitting in my closet collecting dust. I may consider this for my Feb rotation, unless I drop out of what I'm doing now. which is kind of a Pilates/hybrid type plan! Decisions, decisions... Donna |
I ordered yesterday. I think I'm going to do the Slim/Lift (too big) rotation for a month and then the Classic for a month. I will be subbing other cardio for 30 minutes, but will use the rest of the workouts. If I get bored with Sculpt, I'll try to replace it with something similar.
|
when are you going to start LoveVa? Maybe I'll join you! I will probably do a Classic Rotation, but I definitely won't be able to do some of the double workouts - like cardio & sculpt on the same day. I also like to add on lots of yoga and stretching, so I may just stick w/ one workout a day - even TummyTuck which is only 15 minutes may be a solo workout so I could do something else that day, too. I tend to get bored if I don't add enough variety and flexibility into my plans....

Ok, I'm flexible! :) I may want to start soon, too as my butt is really falling faster than I'd like and I have hopes that this will fix it....:o

I've had this system forever and never did a rotation. I actually forgot about it until reading this thread. I just started a Classic Rotation today.....:)

I did this for the first time in January one year and loved it. It was perfect for that time of year with the beach background and fun vibe.:sun::sun:
