September 2021 Add 'em up Goals & Habits Challenge ~Join us!

Come join us in setting and achieving goals to promote your overall wellness! We are a friendly and welcoming group who love to chat when we have time, but please also feel free to join us if you want to just focus on your goals. No pressure here to address everyone; share as little or as much as you want!

We have been doing this challenge for many years now. While it is not strictly about fitness goals, we agree that our daily life goals work together with our fitness goals to make us happier and more balanced, so we combine them in this challenge. Feel free to join us! You can tailor it to your schedule if you need to take a week off for vacation or only count so many days. Whatever works for you!

Premise: Choose your goals for the month. Every time you complete a goal you get a point. Multiply your number of daily goals by the number of days in the month. This is your max total points. If you choose, reward yourself for reaching a certain percentage of your max possible (I use 90% for my personal goal), multiply by your max to get your total goal points. I also give myself extra credit options.

**Take this challenge however you wish. I used to total my points all the time but have fallen away from that and now just track my goals. There really are no rules, your challenge is your own, we're just here for support and to help each other with accountability. We would love to have you join us!

I don't think I will have time to get my goals set and everything before Dad gets here so probably starting my September challenge next Tuesday, day after Labor Day. Crazy it's this time of year already! My village will be going up next week!! Yay!

MathTeacher 08-30-21 05:20 PM

One goal.

Better than August

Catahoula Cate 09-01-21 12:40 PM

I was not even close to making my goals for August so I'm with you, MT, "Better than August".

Vannie, glad you made it home safely through that storm. It sounded pretty intense. Have fun with your dad!

Sherry any modifications you can do with Lift and Shift? Fewer reps or lighter weights?

I decided to unsubscribe to Citizen Athletics youtube channel even though it had become my fav. He's changed his format and is trying to be funny and entertaining to the point that it's a distraction from the content. Oh well. E3 Rehab and Redefining Strength are still pretty good.

I got a good walk in this morning and am using my YTU balls a lot for myofascial release. Probably my most used prop.

Vantreesta 09-06-21 11:20 AM

Had a good few days with my dad, just not long enough. I wasn't ready for him to leave. Saturday we spent 9 1/2 hours at the MN Ren Fest, most of it with friends, and yesterday we drove down to Des Moines for that fest. Yesterday was beastly hot from the moment we stepped out of the car at 10 AM. Today we're just bumming around. I wanted to go hiking but all the driving and the heat have drained us and feels good to be lazy. I can't get Cyric till this afternoon though and I miss him so much! I had booked the kennel a while back bc I assumed we would be going to my father-in-law's, but it did give us the freedom to stay at the fests longer (cancelling would have still cost me nights on the boarding package bc it was a holiday wknd).

I'm looking forward to getting myself back on track this week. Lots of good stuff has been happening the last couple weeks with camping and time with Dad and friends and everything but I am missing my routine and starting to feel ungrounded again. I'm also excited that I will be putting up my Halloween village this week! Huzzah!

Leonana 09-06-21 12:54 PM

I've had a bad cold the past three weeks, so haven't worked out much. It was in my chest with lots of coughing. I was mostly over it after two weeks. Last Wednesday, I cleaned house, then did a Justina Ercole Endurance Strength workout, then a 15 minute Jessica Smith Abs walk. I over did it and had a relapse. Anyway, I'm starting to feel normal today. Still a bit low on energy. I'm going to skip workouts this week, but maybe some yoga later in the week.

My husband's high school friend is in the hospital dying of Covid, so along with feelings about sadness, my pandemic anxiety is increasing.

MT, I hope September is better than August, but so far, I'm not seeing a change. But I'm trying to be positive!

Katie, I've lost my mojo for Lift and Shift after getting sick. I'll probably do one L&S strength workout per week, and other moderate to light workouts the rest of the week.

Vannie, yay for the Halloween Village! The holidays are officially here, lol. I'm glad you had a good time with your dad.

MathTeacher 09-06-21 06:32 PM

Weeeelllllllllllllllll, I did not start September very well. Hopefully I can get myself pulled together.

Vannie, I went to Lowe's to buy new Halloween inflatables yesterday. They were picked over already. Everyone is finally figuring out what you and I have known since birth.

Leona, I am sorry to hear about your friend.

Katie, I am glad you have gotten walks in. I hope that means your weather is improving.

Catahoula Cate 09-07-21 10:57 AM

Sherry, hope you are feeling better and won't relapse again. Sounds like a tough one. I'm so sorry about your DH's friend. I hope for a miracle to pull through. We lost a neighbor recently to C. He was in his 60's/70's. His whole family, wife, kids, grandkid, got it. Most were very mild but not him.

Vannie, so glad you had such a great time with DD and got to get in a couple Renfests too!

MT, I got my weight back. Oh well. We have company this week so I don't expect to lose it for the time being.

Yesterday was 3 miles of dog walks, no other workouts. Had to run errands and then was just too excited to start on my village so I did the rest of the cleanup that was needed, set up platforms, pulled out all the tubs from storage and got the ground covers on. My dad is letting me borrow his table they used camping so it turns out I need one more ground cover. After our walk I will run pick one up then workout and finally start building! Okay, by then my excitement will be huge so I hope I can focus on a workout! ;) I have had a hard time falling asleep the last few nights bc I keep thinking about decorating!

Sherry, I'm so sorry about your husband's friend. Hope you're feeling better. That's a long time to be sick!

MT, YES!! Halloween is a lifestyle, not a holiday! :D There is a new village piece out this year that I really really want but of course, so did everyone else and it sold out everywhere right away. So bummed. I did pick up two that were released last year that I really wanted so I'm holding out hope that I will be able to get my Web of Horror ferris wheel next year!

Katie, I am so loving this cooler weather! Back to having the windows open and getting back to three walks a day, which Cyric really needs. He gained like 8 lbs over the winter and has only lost half a pound since spring so clearly we need to step it up. I had to cut back his food too. When Dad and I took him to the state park last week we walked three miles and then he slept for a long time. I guess I have been too easy on him and not kept him in good shape bc D'Argo and Chianna never had that problem and they also never complained about going for walks, even when the weather wasn't great. Cyric seems to be a diva...it's raining, it's too hot, it's too cold, I don't wanna walk that fast. I decided that ended last week! Tuesday he actually did choose the longer route options to get to 3 miles so I was happy about that.

Okay I gotta go get the day going. Hopefully I can do personals on my other check ins in the next day or two! I have too many to keep up with but don't want to drop any!

Vantreesta 09-11-21 07:01 AM

Village is all up. Over the next week I'll spend a little time each day putting up the rest of the inside decorations. I know some people have wanted to see pics but please don't feel obligated, just posting the link to VF Roost in case anyone wants to see them. :) https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vfro...ures-t154.html

Catahoula Cate 09-12-21 07:29 AM

A friend of DH's has been here with us the past week. He's a great, easy guest and left yesterday morning. I spent the day reorganizing some things and getting the house back in order. I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine. Belle didn't really like him so we had to do some dog management there. Scout loved him as well as Trooper.

Vannie, I tried to get on the link but it says you have to be a member of VF Roost. I'm not familiar with what that is I guess. I've seen photos of past villages and it's always been really neat!

I better get going...busy morning ahead.

Vantreesta 09-12-21 09:54 PM

Katie, yeah, someone else said the same thing. I didn't realize it wasn't visible to non-members. I may see if I can post them at TF if that one is visible to the public.

Spent the day with friends and hax a great time. Like you, Katie, I'm looking forward to getting back to routine tmrw.

Vantreesta 09-14-21 09:27 AM

Yesterday I really did not want to do the workouts I had planned so I compromised with half fun, half planned. I did Misty Tripoli's Bootylicious off Delicious Dance for the first time, which was fun. Then I did 5 rounds of a desk jockey WOD from March. My pull up bar is down right now so I can get in and out of the Halloween closet so for the hanging knee raises I just held myself up on TheRack like it was a dip station and did them that way. It hit the abs the same but lacked the hang benefit. Then I did another virgin, WWE Stephanie McMahon Fit Series -Lower Body+Stretch. I know I hadn't done the lower body section, but since I had done the upper body it's possible I did the stretch too. I couldn't find the index card for it in my quick search so I can't say for sure right now. The workout was 2 rounds of the following exercises: goblet squats, reverse lunges, deadlifts, quadruped straight leg raises (with your chest on your thigh, which was kind of weird) and donkey kick circles. First round was 8 reps, second was 12. Not a bad workout but my biggest gripe is that she leads you through a couple minutes of warmup and THEN demos the exercises. Drove me crazy to have to just stop when she should have demoed before the warmup!

Catahoula Cate 09-15-21 09:35 AM

I'm still working on getting back into a good routine. Yesterday I had PT and the myofascial work we did was very intense and left me groggy so I didn't do much otherwise. After PT, DH and I stopped at our fav local Deli and got a couple eggrolls to go but they turned out to be mini enchilada's disguised as egg rolls. :D Still tasty and with a nice zing! I did get a good release in my right psoas and my right hip from the myofascial work. Now to keep it!

Today is beautiful! Our leaves are changing and I hope to do a variety of indoor/outdoor work and get a dvd in.

Vantreesta 09-15-21 11:14 AM

https://totalfitnessdvdsforum.com/ha...age-t1173.html

I posted my village pics at Total Fitness where they can be seen by anyone. :)

Katie, glad you got a nice release in your psoas and hip. I can feel my left side tightening up again like it was the last time I went to PT so I have to get on those stretches again. I thought just doing the glute and hamstring videos would be enough but there's smthg I'm missing apparently.

I really really want to get back to a good routine. I feel like a helium balloon that lost its tether! So I decided I want to just go ahead this week and finish all the decorating except for my cemetery in the yard since hubby needs to mow still. That part won't take long to do the first week of October. If I can get everything up maybe my brain will shut up about the excitement and just enjoy it all so I can focus on other things!

Catahoula Cate 09-20-21 09:10 PM

Nice pics of the village on TF Vannie!

We've gotten some nice rain the last few days, cooler temps and our leaves are about at their prime for turning color. I hope to get some good walks in and some photos.
I've been doing some dust bunny dvd's recently and it's been good to mix things up a bit plus I've gotten a couple into the thrift shop box.

MathTeacher 09-21-21 04:19 PM

Vannie, Thanks for posting the pictures. They are awesome.

I am not doing better than I did in August.

Leonana 09-21-21 04:30 PM

I did pretty bad in September due to my cold. But I'm back to normal this week. I did Jessica's Walk Strong 1 Total Body, and feel like I have my energy back.

Vannie, the pictures are very cool!

Vantreesta 09-22-21 09:12 AM

Happy first day of fall! Best season of all, in my opinion. The leaves are changing here, more up north than here at home but I do still see some color. This morning it is 46 with a predicted high of 67. Vannie and Cyric are happy campers! :)

Yesterday's workouts: 30-Day Qi Gong challenge day 29, Kathy Smith Matrix Method Power Walk for Weight Loss Walking part 2 (for the different instructors/virgins/dustbunnies challenge), TTSL Desk Jockey WOD 5 rounds, Caroline Jordan 15-Minute Glute Activation Workout and Barefoot Strength and Stretch Exercises Workout for Your Feet, Hector Estrada Aztec Athletics -5-Minute Calf Plyometric Workout for Runners, 2.18 mi run (first run this month, how is that possible??), Helen Clare Run Better With Yoga -Best Exercises for Piriformis Syndrome, and Matt Giordano Athletic Yoga: Yoga for Runners post-run practice. Forgot to do the wobble board last night.

Yesterday I finished the front door spider web and spiders and posted a pic on TF. I also hung up witch hats that will be lit up and ghosts on the front porch. Last year the ghosts were in a tree, which looked cool, but I spent the whole month untangling them and trying to keep the from sticking to the tree. I decided to try the porch this year. Basically all of October is windy here. I'm hoping today will be calm so I can spray paint my Halloween tree. I'm also looking up how to make a crystal ball and witch broom. :D I suppose I better get some stuff crossed off my to do list today before I indulge in more decorating though!

Only two weekends left of Ren Fest! I know every month seems to fly by but I seriously do not know what happened to September. I had no idea till I logged yesterday's run that I hadn't run since August 31. I wonder if I decided to skip my October trail race bc I missed runs or if I missed runs bc I decided to skip?? Unfortunately, the running app I used this summer was not a good fit for me and I lost endurance even though I did pick up my cadence and speed. So I ditched that plan and will resume with the 10k trainer. I left off on week 7 but am going back to week 5, I think.

Okay, I better get the day started! Happy fall, y'all!

________________
Thanks for checking out my village pics, guys! I get excited to share, especially since we rarely have visitors. Last year the dates fell differently so the village was up before my dad left. I'm sure it didn't excite him as much as it did me! :p

October thread is up!

Vantreesta 09-24-21 04:06 PM

Another don't wanna day but I made myself get downstairs and did a Jessica Smith Cardio Core walk and then came upstairs to do a Happy Yoga episode off the DVR. Glad I did! I'm starving though bc I never ate lunch. Fixing to make cookies, which is not smart when you're hungry!!

MT, my September has not gone better than August either. :(

Catahoula Cate 09-24-21 10:57 PM

Thanks for getting the October thread going Vannie. I have not done very well this month either. Just a busy month but I should still be doing better at some of my goals but I guess that's why they're called goals!
