The Pee-wee lateral

This move is used in a lot of Joyce's routines and I have never felt comfortable with it. Does anyone else feel this way? What do you use as an alternative?

This move just feels awkward to me and if I go too heavy I feel that I could easily injure myself. Maybe I'm doing something wrong??

This exercise works the rear delts. A bentover rear delt flye is a good alternative. :)

Personally I like this move (and Joyce! :) ), but I never go super heavy. I feel like it has really made my upper back/shoulders stronger.

I never do that one. I'm not a personal trainer of PT therapist or anything, but this moves feels awkard and unnatural to me. The few times I have tried the move, it hurt.

Also, as far as I know, Joyce is the only Video Fitness instructor using it.

I always substitute another shoulder exercise - front raise - military press.

Joyce says in one of her videos that if you can't do a particular exercise - double up on one you can. On BUG she has a section on substitute exercises for moves you don't like.

Personally, I never do it.
I just do bent over laterals for the rear delts.

Play "TEQUILA" on your stereo while you're during those parts - that'll help! :D

PS - I don't like them either! Thanks for the good alternate move, Debbie.

Count me in the "never do 'em" camp.

I substitute some other shoulder move...whatever feels fun at the time.

I wouldn't do this exercise. Perhaps substitute the rear delt raise (i.e. Cathe-style) or rear flye. The 7-minute rotator cuff solution book recommends against many of the shoulder exercises out there and I think this one would fall under the list of no-no's.
