Demeris, you might also enjoy The Eight by Katherine Neville. It's an adventure/mystery that interweaves the 1970s with the French Revolution. Very fast-paced and intelligent. Her other books never quite matched it, unfortunately.

I finished The Girls of Mischief Bay, Susan Mallery's newest book. I enjoyed it.

Guess I've given up on the Dame Frevisse novels for now. Read a few, and enjoyed the character aspects, but maybe I'm not in a mystery novel mood?

Reading The Rose Garden by Suzanne Kearsley. Getting off to a slow start, but I'm not reading much these days, so it's nice enough to have a bit to read before bedtime.

(Have been watching Downton Abbey dvds, and moved on just today to the old seventies series Upstairs, Downstairs. Our library finally got them, so I thought I'd give them a go. The first few episodes are kind of clunky and slow, but IIRC it gets much better eventually.)

I finished The Gifts of Imperfection; I had mixed feelings about it. It certainly wasn't "life-changing" for me as it seems to be for other reviewers!

Now I'm reading a book I got from my MIL, The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. I like it a lot so far.

I found Upstairs, Downstairs during the first season of Downton. I loved both, but I used to get the characters mixed up between the 2 series, particularly the staff! Yes, Upstairs, Downstairs does get better, but of course the production values of the early 70s were nowhere near the glitzy Downton work you see today. Don't let that turn you away, though!

Finally finished Unbroken it was a good book, but not a page turner for me. Just started Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. It's a much easier read for me and so far I'm enjoying it.

I started it an then put it aside to read other things. I like listening to Brene Brown's talks, but the book wasn't really addressing anything in my life at the moment.

Hi all,

I just spent 30 minutes browsing Amazon and couldn't find one book I wanted to read (too many choices). You guys seem to know your books so I am hoping I can pick your brains. Lately, I am in to thrillers- I read Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train and am looking for similar type stories.

Does anyone have any recs for thrillers? I am not too in series style books with the same investigator etc.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't read The Girl on the Train, but I have read Gone Girl and I liked Lucie's book a whole lot more.
