Can you buy vhs tapes anywhere other than thrift stores now?

I wonder if anywhere repairs them now? The appliance repair place we used for years went out of business. They said people do not get televisions or dvd players repaired anymore. They buy new ones.

I took my parents' old one when we cleaned my mother's house. It doesn't work well and I don't want to risk it eating a tape. Would it be worth taking it somewhere to be cleaned or otherwise checked out?

My Dad used to be an appliance repairman - tv's, washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. I remember him fixing the very first VCR I ever owned. My son was about 4 or 5 at the time and got a shoe stuck in it. My son's in his 30's now, and my Dad's in his 80's and long retired.

I've seen VHS tape players at Goodwill for $6.00. Don't know how well they work however. I've saved a couple of them because I didn't have the time or inclination to transfer everything to dvd.

Ha - too funny about the shoe. My son is now in his 30's too and he put a GI Joe in ours!

although you can test them in the store, you'd need to hook it up to a TV - that's the only problem with VCRs. i'd ask friends and family first - I'll bet some of your relatives have one in the house somewhere. this would be the most practical solution.
