Unfortunately TFM is often overly complicated for the sake of being overcomplicated because this means that more people won't make use of privacy controls, which can generate more almighty $$$$ for the social media site.

RTFM, a very disrespectful, condescending and self-aggrandizing way to blame people for not realizing that anyone could access your email address (not something listed on the site). And I uh checked the basic instructions. LinkedIn actually sought out people who had searched for me and told them I created a profile. Not sure how I could have expected that. Could you imagine if Facebook pinged every person who ever searched for you, right after you joined?

There is no way that several people, who I hadn't talked to in years, decided to look for me the day after I joined Linked In.

And there are people who make their living from Linkedin who often show up on threads like these all over the internet trying to convince people that linked in is really important. Recruiters and HR people mainly.

I don't blame the everyday people for not realizing how their data is being mined and used and collected. Very few people without a legal degree read or understand these license agreements and terms of usage. Which is exactly how they want it to be. And most be people are just common users of today's technology. They don't know how it works, let alone what's hidden inside. I'll admit I only know everything I know security wise because it's what my hubby does. I'm actually happy every time I see threads like this pop up. I was telling my hubby this morning that security threads pop up on here fairly often and how much that surprises me, yet makes me so happy to see. I wish way more people would become more aware of and research more of how insecure so many things are and how much privacy we really are losing. People need to pay more attention to the apple/iPhone topic and how important it really is. I hope they hold fast and don't cave in. Anyway...rant over.

There was a news item today about a guy who found people on Instagram and could tell where they were located at any given time. That way he could burglarize their homes.

It's good advice for someone who claims to be technical but then cry privacy violation when really you couldn't get away with stalking people on the sly for no other reason that you didn't bother to learn to use the tool. But I'm glad you are turned off from LinkedIn - I find it very useful, and am thrilled there is one less creeper on it.
