Don't forget Cynthia Kereluk's TV show on Lifetime. Is she still on in Canada?

There are a couple fitness shows that broadcast on the Christian channels. (Usually at about 3am in the morning for my insomniac viewing pleasure!) I can't remember the names. One is led by a former professional body builder and they show "regular" folks how to weight train. Then they have an aerobics section with very modestly dressed exercisers.

No ESPN butt-floss there!

Yep, every day. Not my cup of tea, but I think she must have a following.

There are a whole bunch of fitness shows up here that may be syndicated in the states, I don't know. But we have Body Moves, Body Tech, Breathing Space Yoga... and it seems almost every major city network has their own fitness show on in the morning.

I remember doing the 20 minute workout in highschool. I was too naive to think it was anything other than a fitness show. I also remember doing a show called Pulse. Then I found Charlene, and I still tape her every morning, sometimes just to watch.

Talking Mousercise!

Mickey's Mousercise. I used to watch it when I was about 7 or 8 years old. (I'm 24 now). It came on the Disney Channel in the 80s. The only problem is that it came on at about 7am. I usually missed it and I was so happy whenever I managed to wake up in time. The opening music was very energetic and got you in the mood for the rest of the program. Half way through there was a segment about nutrition that was very educational. My favorite parts were the Duck Dance (a fun little exercise/dance that included a hand jive type move) and the cooldown. It had the best cool down segment. Even the lyrics enforced the fact that we were cooling down and that it was important. The lyrics were soothing and went something like : Cool down, Cool down, Now it's time to cool down. I loved that show.

A couple more

Step Reebok TV, which was on ESPN for, oh, about 2 weeks. ESPN used to have exercise shows all morning long. Gilad, STep Reebok, Fitness Pros (which I loved), Cory Everson's Gotta Sweat, Bodyshaping (hated that) and Silicone, I mean Fitness, Beach are the ones that come to mind.

And there was the Richard Simmons show in the late seventies and early '80s. A lot of my college mates watched that (while munching junk food of course) between soap operas. I think even Susan Powter had a real show that wasn't an infomercial.

Aerobicise! oh my, the memories

I fondly recall, (swooping violin music here) when I was working in a coronary care unit in the early '80's. Now we're talking people with heart attacks, chest pain, heart failure, etc.

There was almost always one man in the CCU who would wake up at 5am and tune in Aerobicise (this was during my gym days so exercise on TV was kind of, well, strange, to me). I used to go into these guys' room and my jaw would just drop when I saw that VERY porno-ish stuff on the screen.

I kept very close watch on their heart monitors, though, and it didn't seem to affect them adversely! And they certainly didn't get out of bed and try to join in--purely spectators.

I'm so glad I learned there was more to video exercise than that style, however. Thanks for jogging the memories

Over 30 years ago, my Mom used to workout to Ed Allan every day on TV here in Canada. That's a LONG time ago!
