Myfitnesspal was the key this time. I put the app on my phone, and I couldn't believe how easy it was to track my calories. I've been at this for over a year, so it's been slow and
mostly steady.
I picked some regular meals that I repeated over and over.
Breakfast:
chocolate Slimfast blended with coffee, banana and ice
oatmeal with rice milk, raisins and applesauce
oatmeal with rice milk, blueberries and walnuts
2 eggs on whole wheat toast with coffee
Lunch:
turkey, lettuce, cheese wrap
BIG salad with boiled egg and cheese
leftover soup (I make potato soup or taco soup often in my crockpot)
Dinner:
ONE serving of whatever the family was having (measured!)
steamed vegetables with chicken breast
BIG salad topped with can of sardines
Snacks:
fruit, baby carrots, sliced cucumber, broccoli, nuts, green tea, a spoon of peanut butter
Keeping my extras within my goal calorie range -- office birthday cakes, Halloween candy, church dinners, restaurants (eating 1/2 and saving the rest for another meal or sharing with the children)
Discovering that I
could eat vegetables without smothering them with dressings and I
could drink tea and coffee plain or with a splash of skim milk
I am super busy with more than full-time work (I teach part-time, as well) and five children. Buying precut vegetables is more expensive, I know, but it's been so easy to pack every day. Even my children are reaching for carrots and hummus or salads for snacks on their own.
water, water, water -- It's almost the only thing I drink. I just don't want to exchange calories in drinks for food anymore.
beginner workouts - I still enjoy Jane Fonda's Prime Time series or Mirabai Holland. I started back with these after my surgery, and still pull them out to get
something in.
I used to complain that I could not lose weight. I finally determined that my calorie needs are lower than most. I'll have to keep track for a while, I'm sure, to determine my maintenance needs.
