Thanks so much! I've been trying to get DH to stop sitting so darn much, but when he saw the doctor say that we should not be sitting for hours, it seemed to get through to him. We'll see how long it lasts.

"VO2 max (also maximal oxygen consumption, maximal oxygen uptake, peak oxygen uptake or maximal aerobic capacity) is the maximum capacity of an individual's body to transport and use oxygen during incremental exercise, which reflects the physical fitness of the individual. The name is derived from V - volume, O2 - oxygen, max - maximum."

Thanks for posting this... it was interesting, but i'm not sure I get it.

So the guy is a 'non-responder,' meaning aerobic exercise doesn't yield any benefit for him?

Sorry, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to science-related things...

It sounded like nonresponders reach their maximum level of improvement and then plateau.

I wish they had discussed weight/resistance training. They also glossed over the importance of cutting calories, only mentioning the man's eating a muffin after running.

I didn't get all that, either. On one hand, he's a non-responder, and on the other, he's reducing risk of diabetes?

My take (correct me if I'm wrong) is that he's the type who won't ever reach Awesome Athlete Status but that doesn't negate the internal benefits to his overall health.

You're right. It raises more questions, really. It should have been "A Little Truth About Exercise."

Ok, that makes me feel better.

Seriously, though, it seemed like they were suggesting he might as well not bother with aerobic exercise since he's this 'non-responder.'
