KateTT, I found this article https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/high-r...reps-fat-loss/ that might help answering your question. HTH

The video above is a different perspective but equally relevant.

When I was in my late 20s I did an experiment lifting heavy weights to failure (at the gym) 2x per week upper, 2x per week lower 3 sets sometimes more and my muscle mass was exactly the same as lifting lighter until close to failure 2 sets sometimes more or less.

I returned to weight training in my 40s I noticed my body looked better with higher reps and lower weights or resistance bands/loop, more importantly it feels much better. I haven’t done muscle retesting but I did have my bones checked 2x and they are in really good shape now, the doctor asked me what I was doing to increase the bone density and I told him resistance bands and steady state cardio (along with other things).

Great stuff everyone, thank you!
I recently read somewhere that women are actually better with muscle endurance while men are better with heavier shorter bursts of weights.

Thanks for the video and the article. I guess I'll just keep doing BOTH! Because in the end, I just can't give up my weight lifting!

Hey all, just thought I'd pop in with some observations on my fitness journey. I'm still doing a lot of bodyweight workouts, but also at least one good weight day. Sometimes heavy weights/low rep, sometimes lighter/higher. I have occasionally added in a 2nd weight day because I needed to pump some iron. ;-)

So far: LOTS of fun because I am getting so much variety and I am definitely a variety junkie. Exercise ADD you know. ;-) I have discovered several new (to me) instructors and some fun workouts.

Most of my bodyweight workouts are harder than those lifting weights. Of course I found some exceptions (Bob Harper kicks my butt with or without weights), but I found myself pretty challenged most times with using just my body. I am improving my pushups again which I had slacked off on previously. My legs are hard as a rock.

In the last month I have dropped 9 lbs but I have also gotten VERY strict with my eating and am doing IF (sorry that's all the diet info I can give). I don't know that mixing up my workouts had anything to do with it. I have not lost any strength that I can tell.

Have a goodie!

Hi KateTT

Which body weight workouts have you been doing? I did the free trial for Mark Lauren, but didn't use it much so decided not to sign up for the online stuff but maybe I should invest in some workouts.

Thanks
Rhonda

Fantastic results!! I love IF too! And, I knew you could never totally give up your weights, woman!! Great job, cause we all know how Menopause can mess with your results.

It floors me that people can fast. I truly can't go 8 hours without eating and that is REALLY pushing it!

Great job with your results, Kate! You have me thinking I should further break down the categories on my spreadsheet to bodyweight versus weights.

You don't have to be fast, just keep moving forward.

A mix of Mark Lauren, Riptensity, Group Rx Axis, and Insanity. So far I like his EFX best. I'm getting You are your Own Gym Vol 1 soon so looking forward to adding that in also.
