I'm from Woodside too! What a small world. You must recognize my avatar then.

Wow!!!! Yes - your avatar! I wish I had a nickel every time I was on the train passing that Silvercup sign!!!!

I believe our house was on 64th Street. My sister and I went back in the early 80s to visit our old neighborhood and, would you believe, one of the neighbors came out and said, "Diane? Is that you? You haven't changed!" - we moved from Woodside in 1961!!! Guess my face cream is doing it's job!

He played with the White Sox for three years. I remember feeling so proud that this future first-ballot Hall of Famer was "ours" for awhile.

I felt bad for Mets fans that he didn't get his 300th win with them, but it was thrilling to see him do it as a member of the Sox.

A true sportsman and gentleman. RIP, Tom Terrific.

Aw I bet it's true! I moved around a bit - mostly I lived in the Woodside housing projects but when my aunt minded me I lived in the Acme Arms building I think on Woodside Avenue? By the big Bulova clock. When my sister minded me I lived on 50th Street & Queens Blvd. by the Calvary cemetery. It's been so long. When we went back to take care of my MIL's affairs and my DH's old neighborhood on 74th & Roosevelt was like a whole new world.

It has changed a lot. It's become very, very "yuppified" and the cost of condos, homes, etc. has really gone up. It's a great little city to live in - 1 train stop from NYC, lots of great food. If my husband wasn't such a city-hater, I would have moved closer to NYC. All his brothers (4 of them) live/lived in NYC and it was pulling teeth to get him to go to a show or out to eat when we lived on Long Island or Westchester. Oh well, I always say his loss! I miss and love NYC!

Yes! I worked in Manhattan for many years. Living now in Saratoga Springs, I so miss the city - especially the ballet and live concerts. I had season tickets for years for the American Ballet Theater and NYC Ballet. I hope things get back to normal soon!

Sorry we hijacked this thread a bit!

Kevin Dobson, who played Mack McKenzie on Knot's Landing, has died at 77 due to "medical complications."

Oh no - I loved Kevin Dobson. I was a loyal Knots Landing fan and I loved Mac and Karen and wanted them to be a happily married couple. I used to say to my husband that if Mac ever cheated on Karen, I was done watching the show, so every week when I’d get home from work my husband would pretend he had watched Knots Landing early on satellite and I’d walk in the door and he’s say, “Mac cheated on Karen today.” And I’d always say, “You’d better be lying!”

So sorry to hear about Kevin. RIP
