Traditional recommendations for women's starting weights for kettlebells are 8 kg (17 lbs) (beginners to strength training) to 12 kg (26 lbs) (for strong women with previous weight training). I would think you would quickly outgrow a 10 lber.

as a beginner KBer but advanced work outer.... i use my 12 kg the most.... and currently for swings....

i use my 8 kg for anything more than one or two overhead presses...

i use my 16 kg for rows and deadlifts and some versions of squats...

so i'm happy to have a variety of weights to choose from!

I asked the question on the first page, but I didn't see a response.

I'm going to quickly throw this out there:

I purchased a 10# kettlebell at the end of January. I learned how to do swings and turkish get ups and just did that with it for a month. I joined a 200 swing a day challenge and had a great time with the one bell. I eventually bought a 15# as reward for loosing 5#, but you don't need to go on a spending rampage. There are fun things to do with just one kettlebell.

My husband was fantastic and bought me a few more for my birthday, so I guess I'm starting to go crazy too, but I want to stress that you may find out that the one 10 pounder is just perfect for you. They are a lot of fun, and I'm having a blast with them. I feel so powerful!

I started w/ Atletica. not really a true kb workout but it's what got me on the bandwagon. IMO B&G is a wicked place to start. It;s lighter but brutal. i would go with Paul Katami

happy kettlebelling!!!!
I want Butts & Guts too. And I don't even have KB's yet.

Nuggie - I read your posts in the other thread IF I cave and buy any it will be the "baby bells." I have too many issues with my back & neck to worry about straining something.

Butts and Guts reminds me a little of Kettlenetics -- much beloved by some as cardio with a smaller kettlebell, but derided by others as not being real kettlebell work.

I know that for traditional kettlebell moves like the swing, going with a too-low weight keeps you from doing it right. So, if it were me, I'd start with a classic kettlebell workout (rather than Butts and Guts) like Lisa Schaeffer's or Lauren Brooks's, with a 8kg or so kettlebell (note the beginner's packages on kettlebellinc.com, Lisa Schaeffer's site).

now i feel bad..... don't let my stupid spending spree scare you off.....

i can't even tell you how much FUN kettlebells are and how much i LOVE them !!!!!!

i can't believe it took me this long to get into them! (i can actually thank bob harper and his contour ones for that even though i ended up returning them and got "real" ones after all! look at all the time i've wasted!)

and lauren brooks used kettlebells almost all the way through her pregnancy!

you don't HAVE to spend a lot... like others have said... get the one bell and the butts and guts dvd and have a blast with that! (or get lauren brooks vol 1 and one kb and do that!) then for birthdays, anniversarys, other holidays... just ask for more bells and bell workouts!

you know you want to!
