Any fitness instructors here, or planning to be?

Hi! I used to instruct classes and do personal training. I would like to teach classes again, and maybe get certified in something new.

What classes do you teach? What certifications do you have or wish to have?

Hi FitBoop! I did yoga teacher training several years ago and taught a weekly class for 2 years. I still sub occasionally for a friend. I am a level 2 Essentrics instructor, working towards level 4, and I teach 2 classes a week. I’m otherwise retired so it’s a fun hobby and good to learn something new!

I am licensed to teach Zumba Fitness, taking Basic Steps Level 1 in August last year and Basic Steps Level 2 in July of this year (with Loretta Bates ).

Next year I'm planning to study for the AFAA Primary Group Exercise Instructor certification, and take the exam.

I have an ACE personal trainer and a Silver Sneakers Foundations certification, but I don't teach any classes--right now my life is too chaotic (and I'm retired!).

I plan, over the next few months, to certify in all of the Silver Sneakers programs (except Splash), and I'm hoping, when renew my ACE cert, to add an ACE group fitness cert.

I teach Essentrics classes. I've taught other classes in the past.

Seriously considering attending some of Jill Miller's Roll Model courses to include with Essentrics.

That would be a wonderful combination!

I teach yoga (just one class every two weeks, plus subbing), and have a Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification. I took YTT at Maya Yoga on Maui five years ago, more as an adventure rather than expecting to actually teach, but I do enjoy teaching.

I’m an RN and have been certified as, first an Exercise Specialist and then ACE changed the designation to Medical Exercise Specialist since 2001. I’m also a T-Tapp Trainer. I worked in a hospital in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab for years but recently retired. I taught up to 6 exercise/education sessions 3 times a week.

I’m also a Board Certified Massage Therapist with the first year of Egoscue training and Katy Bowman’s certification under my belt. I’m Certified in Myoskeletal Alignment through Erik Dalton and have about 12 hours of CEs from Tom Meyers. I plan to continue with his home study.

I’m not retired from massage therapy and the postural realignment for pain management that I do - I love it so much it’s not really work! For that reason I’ll maintain my RN, MES, LMT and Board Certification. I also do a little personal training in OUR GYM.

I plan on doing low cost 6-8 class sessions on Lifestyle Change for the local communities and then donating the money to our local library.

Those who teach, do you instruct in a health club or gym, or a school, or privately?

I was thinking of teaching adult education classes. I don’t think I want to teach in a gym again.
