Thanks, I will have to watch when I have enough time, as I also don't have cable. I'm glad it is available online!

HBO has such great documentaries. I cancelled them over a year ago because they played the same movies over and over, but I am missing the docs. Glad I can watch this one, it looked really interesting.

I liked the first season of The Biggest Loser when fat percentage was measured, not just weightloss.
I started to watch this documentary even though I was immediately turned off by the use of the BMI scale as its main criteria for obesity, etc.
Watched it a bit more and really didn't see anything *new*.
Went to eat dinner and when I returned, my laptop was unresponsive to the clip so I lost interest and decided to skip the rest.

FWIW, BMI can be very unreliable when assessing the correct weight for fit/muscular people. However, given how sedentary most people are, it remains a useful tool.

x 2

Also, because it's a simple mathematical measure, it's not very relevant for very tall or very short people.

We have HBO On Demand, so I watched the "Children in Crisis" episode last night. The first 10 minutes of hand-wringing can be skipped, but the rest of the show had some interesting bits.

Of the most interest to me, is how much the food industry controls things like TV commercials and school lunches. They also interviewed several kids around the country who were going through various weight-treatment programs. But while some kids talked about being bullied and called "fat and ugly", there was no discussion about stopping weight bullying or boosting kids' self-worth any way other than weight loss. One girl said she loved to dance and perform, and was shown in a dance class, but she feared that her weight would eventually stop her from dancing. Seems to me that kind of mindset - that certain activities are "closed" to the non-thin - is something that needs to be addressed along with healthy eating and exercising (which is important to ALL kids, not just the obese ones).

Overall, a few good points, but still a lot of blaming-the-victim.
