I have a torn meniscus (but I do not have arthritis in my knees), and I have been doing physical therapy exercises for years to stave off surgery. Two of the exercises given to me by my p.t. (the intermediate quad exercises in the article) are the wall squats (I do 5 of them, 30 seconds each) and the step downs (30 reps, each leg). I also do some of the beginner exercises mentioned in the article.

I have been pain-free for years, but I have to be careful. No high-impact or step workouts for me anymore!
